One of the best shore dives in Victoria! There is so much to see around the pier. It is just magical diving amoung the the timber pilons, its like flying through an underwater forest. The sealife is the biggest drawcard to divers. The seadragons are the prizes jewel of diving here. I have been diving at flinders dozens of times and have seen these cute little critter everytime. They love to hide in the seaweed and around the pilons. Also keep your eyes peeled because the local stingrays are inquisitive and like to swim in close to say hi and check out the bizzare visitors to their kingdom. Under the pier there is a large engine block to discover and about 10-15m off the end of the pier is the remains of a boat that sunk. Fish love to shelter below the wreck which is only about 5-6m down so can easily be reached even just snorkling. After dark the underwater world is a hub of life. And dont forget, bring your dive torches and explore the different variety of life that can only be seen at night. Flinders pier is not a deep dive but has alot to offer. It is perfect for beginners and mixed groups are divers training to learn more advanced skills. With easy free parking and toilets nearby and the choice of beach entry or from the pier Flinders is always a...
Read moreI go there to scuba dive. Today conditions were quite good. Sometimes you go there and the vis is terrible, you can't see your hand in front of your face. Today was quite clear with vis up to 20 metres at times. A lot of divers under the pier and not too many weedy sea dragons to be seen under the pier. If you go out a little further from the pier you will find remains of an old boat wreck. It is scattered in pieces amongst the weed. There you will find octopus, cuttlefish and a few larger fish amongst the wreckage and weeds. If you go on a diagonal path from the end of the pier, to the left in the direction of Red Rocks, you will find the old pier posts. I usually see big octopus on the old pier posts and the occasional small shark and a few large stingrays. It is important to look and not touch. Also, the ticket machines in the car park have been removed, so ignore the ticket parking only sign for now until they re install...
Read moreDo not go here. Strange parking requirements, says tickets needed but you can't buy tickets you have to download an app. Parking is $6.20 per hr or $19.50 per day 8n winter too, it's a parking trial. BEWARE DON'T LEAVE CARPARK before you've paid. We left in frustration whilst hanging on the phone for assistance and now we can't pay we were told as we left the parking lot (not thats there's anytjing saying that) we will get an infringement. We tried ringing the council the following weekday and nope being honest doesn't help you, can't pay. Feel sorry for older people who will find it all very confusing. Also the app requires you to have a minimum amount of $5 top up....left such an unpleasant memory we didn't stay in Flinders at all went back to Rosebud and spent our...
