After visiting numerous gardens in Melbourne, we decided to have our wedding ceremony and reception in the Sunken Garden in Melbourne’s Burnley Gardens. The University of Melbourne staff were supportive and understanding of our needs and wishes, and they did everything they could under difficult COVID restrictions. There are lots of places within the gardens for wedding photographs without being disturbed. The Sunken Gardens are paved with ramp access - perfect for guests with diverse mobility needs. We set up socially distanced seating under the wisteria walk, which provided a stunning environment for us to walk down the aisle, and also brought our own (pegless) gazebo for our catering team. This place is truly a hidden gem!

The trees are mature, the garden looks cared for, but it has been allowed to mellow and nature has taken over a little. Burnley Gardens has got this just right. What I liked: . Lynch's tree selection and how he used the trees to create a framework around the areas of lawn. . The network of paths, with themed garden-rooms under the canopy of the trees. . The layers of shrubs, groundcovers and plant combinations. Burnley Gardens was founded by the Horticultural Society of Victoria. The Gardens were designed by Alfred Lynch (opened in 1862). It became Australia's first school of horticulture and small farming. There is an app you can download before you visit.

Stunning gardens. I visited about 6pm on a Saturday and it was magical wandering around basically having the gardens to myself. Each zone makes you feel a completely different atmosphere. The history of the place on the app is so interesting. I found the GPS responsive guided tour a bit hard to control but the historical information was excellent. I’m putting this one down as a place to take friends who visit for a stroll. My photos show how wonderful the various flowers are, and the stunning giant Queensland Kauri.

This BEAUTIFUL HIDDEN GEM is mind blowing. It is some what hidden. It is full of lush green everything everywhere. Its like a mini version of the botanical gardens. I can't recommend this place enough! It's peaceful. It's calming. It has little hidden paths that take you into a somewhat jungle/rainforest type vibe. Perfect for meditation! Also there is a great coffee place a few minutes walk f At the W hotel element which if your travelling by tram, it's right at the tram stop. Get a morning coffee and stroll down to the gardens and sit amongst the trees that are beyond big and tall. You will not regret finding this...
