I recently visited the Centre for Contemporary Photography (CCP) gallery and was amazed by the three exhibitions currently on display. From traditional black-and-white pieces to contemporary color photography, each show offered something unique and captivating. The CCP is a real haven for photographers and art lovers alike - it truly offers something special. The atmosphere of the space is inviting and inspiring, with plenty of room to explore and appreciate each piece of artwork. The staff are also incredibly knowledgeable about all of the works, so if you have any questions they're always happy to help.

Went to the Photobook exhibition. A nice little community run space with lots of enthusiastic art community members. Interesting show but perhaps a little lost in Melbourne. Love the area and Saturday nights nearby are fabulous for a feed of any type of food!!

A small art gallery that is also used for wedding ceremonies. Lots of wonderful black and white photos on the walls.

I know my comments will go against the flow, and likely will be evidence for some that I am a philistine who knows nothing about art. So be it.

If you relish the idea of lots of Chinese nudity, together with photos of children, also Chinese, displaying evidence of abnormal development and physical abuse, then you must go to the CCP / I mean the Centre for Contemporary Photography (get it?).

Along with the photographs are “blurbs” to explain each photographer’s intentions and background, in English and Chinese. These are quite interesting and informative. And yet, the descriptions are sometimes confronting and jarring, as for example, describing the children’s expressions as “care free” when they clearly were anything but.

At one level, I know that art interpretation is very individual, and any example of artistic expression may give rise to opposite emotional responses.

But surely, there must be some common ground, some sharing of values, some appeal by the artist to share his or her perspective of the subject?

Sorry but this collection failed to reach this basic...
