We'd been shopping for almost three hours. For me as a female that's quite normal, however with me was my partner whose usual shopping escapades last not more than the necessary 10-30 minutes. On this Sunday however after having been dragged from one side of Southland to the other more times that I have the pride to admit, my partner -on our way to the car (finally) said something I was certainly not expecting. 'Richa' he said, 'let's just pop in here before we go.' The roles were reversed - I said 'you go ahead Ben' as I let go of his hand. 'I'll find a seat out here and wait for you' 'Aww c'mon ' he exclaimed in a sort of cute way 'come with me.'. I obliged. We walked in, as always greeted very nicely by the security guard. As usual no employees were available such are the tactics of JB HiFi. Nevertheless there are so many signs and aisles it's really not an issue. Like we always do when we go into a JB Hi fi we followed out usual pattern.
Ben skipped merrily over to the gaming section to browse new Xbox games which he was going to hmm & aah about before not buying them. In the meantime I walked by a 6-year old boy puzzling at the sight of a record; and an elderly lady enquiring how to increase the font size on her phone. I found myself in the keyboard section. I used to be an above average piano player, not more than 8 years ago I performed Fur Elise infront of my school audience. As I approached the black and white cascade of keys, gently placing my right thumb on middle C, a wave of nostalgia brushed past me. 'I should learn how to play the piano again' I thought to myself. And then parked that thought in the back of my mind next to 'I should be vegetarian' and 'I should start going to the gym in the mornings'. After what felt like almost 30 minutes of unavoidable hide and seek Ben and I finally found eachother. 'Find anything?' I asked. 'Nah,...
Read moreSo I go down to JB, my normal phone has died, I’m using a Samsung Edge 6S circa 2009 (well that’s what it feels like it’s so ancient) and the guys in JB Southland are just flat out as the entire country has just been told to work at home and half the schools have sent kids home indefinitely. Everybody is panic buying Nintendo, DVD packs and every possible piece of home office equipment they can get their hands on. Frantic workers and even more desperate parents were calmed by the staff who listened to each person’s concerns about the upcoming lock down and helped people deal with their emotional reactions about the upcoming staycation by getting them the technology that would help them make life a bit more bearable. This included myself, deranged with the fear of spending the next six months home with a Samsung s6 that was by now frozen trying to download the 88,000 unread emails in my inbox. But Cilla and Emma and the security guard at the front door knew how to deal with the crisis. And like every other customer, I left JB HiFi Southland feeling armed with the tools needed to survive the next few months. Thanks guys, you don’t know how much your calm reassurance and refusal to let closed down call centres in Manila get in the way of getting me connected again means. I can still work from home now, call my parents, and well just generally function. I know I’m not the only one that left your store so much better prepared not just practically, but mentally, for the next few months of...

This has been one of the worst delivery experiences I’ve ever had. JB Hi-Fi and their Home Delivery Centre (HDC) have shown a complete lack of professionalism and care for their customers.
Despite providing clear and detailed instructions about access and stairs at my property, the delivery team showed up unprepared and rudely stated they needed extra help. This should have been organised in advance based on the information I provided.
The rescheduled delivery was then cancelled due to supposed “heavy rain,” yet the photos they sent as “proof” clearly showed light drizzle at best — an obvious false excuse to cover poor planning.
I have now missed not one but two full days of work waiting for deliveries that never happened. On top of that, $300 worth of perishable groceries were lost. I was promised multiple times that I’d be contacted with a confirmed delivery date, but despite repeated follow-ups, HDC has failed to contact me at all.
This experience has caused financial loss, stress, and a huge waste of time. As someone who’s spent thousands with JB Hi-Fi over the years, I am absolutely disgusted by the way this has been handled. I will never shop here again and strongly urge others to avoid JB Hi-Fi for any large...
