Sandringham Beach — Attraction in Melbourne

It is a nice stretch of sand from the Sandrigham Yacht Club car park at Picnic Point via the Sandrigham Life Saving club and up to Red Bluff. Red Bluff, the highest cliff on Port Phillip Bay, is the reference location for the Red Bluff Sandstone formation which constitutes the best part of the cliff.

The beach is sheltered from Beach Road traffic noise by tall cliffs, hence it is a steep slope to the sand from the car parks and paths above.

There are public toilets either end of the beach.

If you have dogs and like to exercise them off lead, best period to come is from 1 April to 31 October when dogs are welcome all day long without restrictions.

During the summer period off leash dog walking is only permitted before 10am. See attached sign for full dog rules.

The beach front town of Sandringham and its beaches are absolutely beautiful. Just about half an hour away from Melbourne CBD by train, it offers something significantly different from the hustles of the city and into a relaxation and leisure that should be part and parcel of Melbourne's local life. Fantastic beach with some great views and wonderful sunsets. Parking is limited but you can find some additional space down the side roads. Public toilets, water fountains and some pleasant walks are found at the top of the beach. Dogs are required on leash for the most part.
