I don't like going here because there's no pedestrian access on 3 sides, just one door on the south western side of this huge complex (which btw is not the main entrance, just tacked on later in an attempt to convey an impression of one. {It's on a restaurant plaza that serves just about 100% meat and processed carbs and is expensive}). Built for cars alone - yet it's car parking hell. Not as dire as Chaddy, i grant you, but unpleasant enough to send me 5km further, to other easier shopping centres.
I never go beyond the food shopping area; am comprehensively horrified by this sort of sterile environ. Give me street shopping that's grown organically, not been coralled and restricted and stripped of allure.
There's essentials: 3 supermarkets, key person, chemist. No reject shop or Kmart. Cafes are barely OK. Zero character. Good Asian grocer.
Hideous accredit screechy echoey 'pop' muzak piped everywhere INCLUDING THE CARPARKS, SO THERE'S NO PEACE, NO REFUGE ANYWHERE. I've been there after hours with few people around, and music still playing was loud enough to make conversation difficult on the concourse. Absolutely idiotically obnoxious.
I also find the exit boom gates very irritating. To charge retailers huge rent and then also charge shoppers for parking is offensive.
Parking hell, capitalist purgatory. Similarly to the worst of its kind, like unto the totally divorced-from-reality inside of a casino, designed to overload your senses, keep you physically captive (hence the insufficient egress) and distract you into that spend spend spend state.
I'd appreciate a more permeable structure with doors onto the streets, surrounded with seating and pockets of plaza garden, no muzak,...
Read moreI visited The Glen Shopping Centre very regularly before pandemic struck. I am still very cautious until the dust really settled.
It is a modern two-storey shopping complex, large but not humongous. Besides the three household names woolworths, Coles and Aldi, there are Asian supermarkets and groceriesthat serve the Asian community well.
In addition to supermarkets, there are dedicated stores selling fish, meat and chicken, and related products.
The many retail clothing stores sell fashions ranging from low end to very up-market brands.
Within the complex are three medical clinic, one is super large, three chemists/pharmacies.
Whether it is on the ground floor or upper floor, there are a number of pop-up stores sellimg juices to phone repair.
I must not forget the florist that has such beautiful and colourful display of flowers and floral arrangement. What's more, it sells balloons for special occasion.
There is no white goods store, but it has a electronic/electrical store that has no competitor around.
It is unlikely any shopper can walk out hungry, as long as they have enough money to pay for a large selection of food and bakery items.
Besides individual restaurants, the very large Food Court is the glutton paradise. I salivate just by imagining myself enjoying those culinary felights as I write this post.
It is such a pleasant shopping centre that I use it for my walking exercise. I do not have to worry about the weather, the temperature and car exhaust fume.
Parking is not a problem, and neither is acess for...
