As a return visitor, I was delighted to return. This is a great little heritage tourist railway. The volunteer staff are great ambassadors for the railway. The journey is mostly through the countryside, and there are pleasant views to take in.
This is a very family friendly operation and children seem to really enjoy the train ride. Parents seem to enjoy the kids absorbed with the train.
The Yarra Valley Railway is a bit over an hour from Central Melbourne and a fairly easy drive.

Read moreThe railway station itself and it's location is quiet quaint. We took the train ride from the station. It is a two way ride - the train goes up one way and back the same. The train is more of an old tram than a train. The ride is not really worth the time as there are no scenic places to see from the ride as such. We were hoping that the kids would enjoy the ride, but there is really nothing for the kids to enjoy on the ride. Also, at $18 that ride is not worth the money paid. The rail motor is in great condition. Unfortunately the line stops quite abruptly - but there is work going on to extend it. The vintage station also seem really authentic.
