Wow! I thought I liked cheese but I never really appreciated cheese until visiting Cheesemonger Sophie. The stock consisted of many cheese I'd never heard of from European destinations. And there also some amazing local (Australian cheeses). I liked brie, but tasting the Paysan Brie, I now love Brie. The staff were excellent and walked us through the cheese selections. The cheeses had such amazing flavours and textures. Some just melted as soon as they touched the tongue. The store has a good selection of other artisanal snacks and delicacies. We later made a small charcuterie board for dinner using the three cheeses we bought from Cheesemonger Sophie, the pickled onions (also bought from Cheesemonger Sophie), a terrine (that we already had in our fridge, otherwise we would have bought some from Cheesemonger Sophie - there was a interesting selection we wanted to try) and a local red wine (from our stash) - it was superb pairing of foods.
The quality of the produce is amazing and the prices do reflect that quality...BUT the quality-price point is worth it. I'm glad we discovered Cheesemonger Sophie and we...
Read moreA small cheese store with endless amounts of patrons coming in for good food & cheese!
Located on the main stripe of Healesville, we came here for some cheese toasties & baguettes.
We ordered the smoked ham baguette with pickle and prosciutto with figs, almonds & rockets. Both were delicious with later being my favourite.
We also had the Reuben toastie but I found the brisket to be too salty for my liking. Nevertheless it was very comforting to have in a cold Melbourne winter.
The services were quite slow, but that's the charm of the store. They don't have many seats in the house, nor do they do coffee (since they said they are not good at it).
Many people seem to be returning customers and had small chats with the staff and owner.
We wanted to order more, unfortunately almost everything was sold out after we finished our food. Can't wait to try their other baguettes...
Read moreA true cheese haven in Healesville – and a rare gem behind the counter! I recently discovered a fromagerie in Healesville that is so much more than just a cheese shop! We were lucky enough to be served by Sophie Classon – and what an experience. Sophie isn’t just a shop owner; she’s a true cheese guru. Her knowledge, passion, and ability to guide you through her incredible selection is outstanding. As a French person who grew up surrounded by cheese (especially the strong ones!), I can say she truly knows her craft. When I found her Comté a bit young for my taste, she immediately suggested a Swiss cheese alternative – and it was absolutely perfect. If you’re looking for exceptional cheeses from Australia and around the world, paired with genuine advice and kindness, this is the...
