Honestly always have the best ED experience at Fiona Stanley. Everyone here is very professional and kind and show true empathy and care even tho they are seeing so many people in a stressful high pace environment. I don’t think I could keep track of everything and stay calm and attentive with that much pressure im really amazed and I hope you guys know I’m so beyond grateful for your efforts and to have a safe place to go to, as I was refusing to go to ED from previous experiences at other departments but I know I will feel safe here which makes the wait a lot easier. (Plus it’s always clean and they have great vending machines inside)
To patients: The wait time is often lengthy at FS ED but I know that they will take my concerns seriously and actually do tests accordingly aswell as keeping me updated with what’s happening and giving details on results where possible which is amazing!
They are trying their hardest and it can be frustrating and frightening as a patient waiting and not knowing what’s going on but the workers in ED do not have control over what is happening inside the department and what is happening with the patients and doctors and often times emergency department is over flowing and people are on chairs inside and don’t always have beds they are trying so hard to see all the patients and treat them all accordingly. Abusing the workers makes absolutely no progress, it only creates fear in other patients and the nurses. If you have concerns you are encouraged to speak to nurses and ask for help. Before coming to ED please first consider that different hospitals specialise in different areas so try to find one relevant to you if it’s more specific I.e childrens ED will be shorter then regular Ed for your kid. You can also attend after hours or urgent care which can be quicker depending on your circumstances. Aswell as checking online for the hospital waits (google: emergency data) to see what’s quickest for you although keep in mind patients are admitting according to urgency. I hope this can help in making the best decision for...
Read moreOn Monday, I presented to ED children’s department with my daughter who had a raging fever and complaining of discomfort in her throat. I was admitted virtually instantly as there were no patients waiting and it seemed like a quiet afternoon. Once the doctor came to visit me, she had asked what was happening and I had let her know she had quite a bad cough the last few days but developed a fever the Saturday night which I called a home doctor to come and assess. They said she had quite inflamed tonsils but were going to give her steroids and to take them for 3 days then see a doctor or ED if symptoms were to get worse. The doctor at ED advised the nurses to not do any obs as it was clear my daughter had a virus and to continue on with panadol and nurofen and it will pass. On the discharge letter she had given me, she wrote that I had advised her my daughter was on antibiotics and to finish them as directed by the night doctor? Not once did I say that she was on antibiotics. I went home and continued on, she got a lot worse over night, the fever was going up and medication wasn’t helping. I presented to ED once again on the Tuesday advising the same, it was extremely busy, and eventually when we got admitted I was asked “what are you actually worried about”. They were not listening to me! They sent me home once again, which is when I had no choice but to call health direct to seek alternative help. If jt wasn’t for my GP who advised she had strep throat and needed to go on antibiotics instantly, I don’t know what the outcome would have been. A mother’s instinct is very strong; if I come to ED more than once, it’s because there is something seriously wrong. I want my daughter to be checked over, even if you may only think it’s a virus; next time it could end a lot worse. I have definitely lost all trust in public hospitals after this incident and will go back to the private sector for future matters. One...
Read moreMy Boyfriend when to FSH ED last week due to back injury. He was in horrible pain, could not move at all. Dr did an initial assessment when we arrived and he said we will do the x-ray. We waited 4 hours, that doctor finished his shift, and we were only given some pain killers, no doctor was checking us up or updating us when we will get the x-ray done. We finally had it done after waiting for 5 hours. And after another 3~4 hours later, a female doctor came to us and tried to sit him up by just controlling the bed position without warning. He was almost screaming. He asked did you look at my X ray and she said she hasn't yet!!?? He almost begged her to see the result first and then try to move him or whatever. Then she said she will come back after reviewing the result. We had to wait for another 1.30 hour, and she said result does not indicates spinal injury and it's probably just muscle. Then we asked for MRI and she said they don't the to MRI at ED so we have to see our GP and get a referral to do it.. So we just got multiple pain relief medications and discharged with only little information about his condition after total 11 hours of constant waiting.
He saw his GP, did the MRI, got the result today and it says L3/L4, L4/L5, L5/S1 disc bulge and protruding. Which is lower spinal condition. I really think you guys could've done a lot better.. Wonderful Nurses and...
