Read more(3.5 stars) It was a hot, sunny Saturday October Long Weekend afternoon but the water was still, er, brisk on the Central Coast. Undaunted, we hurled ourselves in anyway for our first Australian swim of this season.
Ocean Beach is a long, gently curving sweep of coastline largely sheltered by a series of shifting sandbars between Ettalong and Umina beaches, with plenty of free parking but not much in the way of facilities. The sandbars make it a bit of a long walk to deeper water at the eastern end of the beach.
The familiar red and yellow rescue chopper was buzzing low and regularly, clearly looking for someone who’d got themselves in a bit of trouble. Hopefully that all ends well. We’ll return when the water temperatures...
