Oh my goodness!! Portarlington is GORGEOUS!! I grew up by the coast but now live in rural Victoria. I miss water and the ocean so much and try and get back there as often as possible. We visited Portarlington on a whim as we had some time to spare before a lunch reservation and I was blow away by the calm and serenity of the water and the bay. Had we known it was such a lovely place we would have allocated more time there. We parked down by the jetty/pier and walked to the water. The feeling of taking my shoes off and walking on grass and sand and finally touching the cool, fresh water almost made me cry. The beach is really shelley so is a bit tough on the feet and there's heaps of dried seaweed all over the beach. I'm not sure if it's always there or its seasonal but it didn't matter. I loved being there so much. It was one of the best parts of our holiday for me. I will absolutely be back to stay in the town for a few days the next time...
Read moreThis pier has an epic corridor of modern structure covering the waiting area for a Dockland bound boat ride passengers. Further walk towards the end is continued to breakwater where people typically sits on their camping chairs waiting to catch fish from their fishing rods. Nice view of the sunrise and beautiful horizon. From the end of the walk will have to walk back to the start where to can walk towards the beach and shaded car parking with picnic area. Parking is quite heavy on a weekend specially if there is an event in the area. There is only one restaurant called Pier St that is the closest one with the view of the water and is serving mostly seafood. Beautiful! Quite small and booking is a must specially on a large group. Public toilet just next to that restaurant and within the car...

Had mussels of course for lunch. There is a farmers market but need to check the date. There is also a national trust mill which is only open on certain days. Again need to check it out on website...
