I remember walking the area in my 20's and thought the views were amazing - any place else in the world and the land here would have been sold off for development for a fortune. I only recently got sent a picture of my parents in the years before I was born, and it shows them posing with the Sydney Harbour Bridge in the background. My best guess is that it must have been taken at Balls head Reserve, looking over towards Blues Point - but I can't be sure. I live in the USA these days, so can't very well check it out. Google maps certainly seems to show an area of the reserve looking out on the harbour - if someone could kindly cross reference the attached picture against the present background I'd certainly appreciate it - bear in mind that Blues Point Tower wouldn't have been there when my parents posed for this pic!

I think Balls Head Reserve is a really great bush walking track. Along the route, there are some flat roads, but the majority is actual bushland. Natural paths have been carved around the headland, though, due to the constant walking of many visitors over time. There are some stairs and narrow parts in the walk, but I found it to be a relatively mild trek. The track is well marked and easy to follow. Although a relatively popular spot for bush walking, during the times I have been here, it has never been crowded. To me, the walk is really peaceful and tranquil. There are many places along the walk that have amazing views of Sydney Harbour. The area is very well maintained. There is free street parking at the start of the route. There are also barbecue and picnic facilities. Dogs on leashes are welcome here.

Balls Head Reserve is a great place to go with family, friends, your partner and even take the kids out to play. Family environment and very nice for calm walks and contemplation of nature. If you want to relax or have a picnic, this is definitely the right place for it. In addition, the view is simply beautiful to behold, if you want to take good pictures, enjoy the sunset and you will be able to make magazine pictures. Even more, the hike in the reserve is a sensational experience and for all ages, but remember to be prepared for it. I highly recommend the tour, it's worth every minute.

Beautiful reserve to explore & walk the natural bush forest in the middle of harbour waters.. Discovering the most beautiful views of the ocean harbour & the entire city of Sydney along the way.. The car park bays are close to the picnic ground areas & not to far away are some of the most beautiful lookouts that Sydney has to offer.. If you keep following one of the marked winding trails within the luscious growth of vegetation bushland & forest trees which circulate around the entire reserve there are many secluded hidden lookouts to discover from the sectioned large rocky areas to the rocky stair ways leading to cleared green lawns...surrounded by large trees... These lookouts are marked by metal gates or wooden short fences which border the edge of the cliffs..overlooking the Sydney harbour & the nearby city suburbs of Sydney

Whilst enjoying the trek you will discover many different caves with man made doors or posts making them look like cave houses or shelters.. Makes you wonder about the history of these caves & if they were ever inhabited by the native aboriginal people.. These sites would benefit from historical inscriptions boards posted near these cave shelters/houses as I'm sure people & even the tourists would love to learn about the historical background of this magical & spiritual reserve.. Also as you walk the bush trails its so peaceful that you can hear a twig crack if someone was coming through the same trail you were on but has not yet turned the corner for you to see them.. It has a very spiritual feel to it that it almost feels magical.. It is extremely peaceful & relaxing here.. You will be glad you had the pleasure to experience such a...
