Steel Park Waterplay Park in Marrickville South is an excellent destination for families seeking a fun day out during the warmer months. The park offers a range of exciting water features, including fountains, sprinklers, and jets that are perfect for kids to splash around in and cool off. But what really sets this park apart is its water sensitive design, which is both innovative and eco-friendly.
One of the best features of the park is the walking track, which offers visitors the opportunity to take a leisurely stroll around the beautiful waterplay area. The track is well-maintained and surrounded by lush greenery, making it an ideal spot for a peaceful afternoon walk.
Another standout feature of Steel Park Waterplay Park is the BBQ facilities, which are perfect for families and groups of friends looking to enjoy a delicious meal in a picturesque setting. The facilities are clean, well-equipped, and conveniently located close to the waterplay area, so parents can keep a close eye on their kids while they cook up a storm.
Overall, I would rate Steel Park Waterplay Park five stars for its excellent facilities and innovative design. The park's commitment to water sensitivity and environmental sustainability is truly admirable, and it is clear that a lot of thought and care has gone into its construction.

For those who were feeling a bit more adventurous, the park also had a flying fox that was a lot of fun to ride.
In terms of sports, the park had a large field that was perfect for playing soccer, frisbee, or any other sport you might enjoy. The field was well-maintained and provided plenty of space for groups of all sizes.

Read moreThis lovely park has a lot of potential, but unfortunately, its playground falls short of expectations.
While it offers some features like 3 trampolines, a spinner, swings, a spiderweb climber, and 1 slide, it lacks engaging elements, making it quite dull for children unless they're playing with others.
The design choices seem ill-suited for younger children. Toddlers under 2 or 3 years old struggle to use the slide without assistance. Additionally, the waterplay area poses safety concerns. Though parts of the area are cushioned with wet-pour rubber, much of it consists of slippery stones and tiles, making it hazardous for kids. It raises the question: why not extend the rubber across the entire area?
Another safety concern is the incomplete barriers along the path by the river, leaving gaps where children can easily run into the car park or towards the river. Compounding these issues, cyclists often ride through the playground area, adding to the risk.
To top it off, the park is overrun by bean chickens so if you bring food, you'll likely spend your visit chasing them away.
In summary, it’s clear the playground’s design doesn't account for the safety or enjoyment of children, making it a missed opportunity for a great park space....
