At the south side of the Swan river opposite Heirisson Island, this park is pleasant for walking, jogging and cycling. There is a basketball court and a place for skateboarders. Main features are green open lawns and leafy trees, waterbirds near the river.
Named after Alex McCallum, a Labor politican turned administrator with a passion for Swan river beautification in 1930s Western Australia. Perhaps more importantly he made a significant contribution to development of a metropolitan sewerage scheme.
A bit like Burswood Park, you can run, walk or cycle along. Great views along the river as you see the beautiful outline of the city from afar.
There isn't much in the way of facilities unless you happen to visit when the pop up bar is in operation.
Otherwise, for the majority of the year, it is another one of Perth's riverside parks populated by families on picnics, runners, cyclists and people strolling by.
Adjacent to the causeway and approx 2.5km from the casino, Optus stadium and in the other direction approx 3km to the ferry at Mends St jetty.
I regularly visit McCallum Park when I’m walking the bridge to bridge walk from Narrows Bridge to the Causeway loop.
The train statue they’ve got is very real like when looking from afar, and is great to take a photo of with Perth and the Swan River in the background. It’s a busy park as walkers, runners and bicyclists regularly use it for fitness(at least the paved walkways) however it doesn’t ever feel too crowded.
Free to use and right near Victoria Park bus...
Read moreGreat place to park your vehicle without the Local Authority collections related parking. The City of South Perth covered the parking areas that I've enjoyed feasting on KFC between lectures, back in 87 - 92 along with friendships and family up to 2009. All good ladies I have early onset of Dementia related to Diabetes so alphabetically numbers speak louder than history. So we are in Yegan territory of the first nation people.
Tried to google the correct spelling of the Nation, being Perth and as far South as Manjimup bordering Wadandi people to the west, Busso however google had no reference.
In any event, I proudly say that I have had the pleasure of shaking the hand of his bloodline family. It was a moving moment!. Let's keep it simple, next time you need KFC, drop into the South Perth outlet on Canning Hwy, and feast at McCullum Park with no threat of parking fines. Well done to Victoria Park.
Take time to reflect and google Yagen. Then think of Nelson Mandela's fight for freedom in South Africa. Seriously, it's a place that inspires the mind.

Read moreMcCallum Park is a lovely place to go and have a picnic. Plenty of grassed areas and trees for shade and walking paths for exercise right near the water. My only gripe is the toilets were closed with only 1 handicapped one open for everyone to use. So there was a line up. I am assuming this is because on the few occasions we have been there there has been some pretty undesirable people hanging around the toilet facilities. So people with children take care. If that is the case with the main toilets being shut and the council know about it, then they should have a ranger or security doing patrols. Apart from that I really...
