If you’ve been to wineries anywhere else in Europe, Domane Wachau is such a dissappointment. We booked the German speaking tour knowingly (we dont speak German and there were also 3 others who don’t talk the language) as there is no English speaking tours on Fridays, just once a week on Saturdays but still wanted to see the estate and the wine cellars. There is a girl working that is actually from our country, and she tried to come to the tour to translate to us, but it was denied. Instead, there was a girl, who only stood at the back of the group and the two questions we wanted to ask, she couldnt answer as she doesnt talk almost any English. The guide didnt check on us even once when we were walking when she would have had the time.
We were also separated for the tasting, again not getting the girl from our own country, but instead a guy who was clearly in a hurry for us to just finish and leave, and on his phone all the time. We didn’t see any passion towards wines or the wine industry from any employee, expect funnily that girl from our country, whose second day at work it was. Beautiful renowed winery and so much potential, but just no passion nor care for good customer service, unless you...
Read moreWe visited the winery in August 2024. Although we booked the day before without availability issues, booking in advance is still recommended I would say. We paid 18 euro for each ticket. Tours happen every Friday and Saturday from 2pm to 3:30pm. The cellar visit and the tasting are only guided and the downside of it is that they are in German. However the guide, was explaining to us few things in English right after she explained in German, which was very handy. On the tasting you get to try four wines plus some bread. They are friendly and the visit to the cellar is really cool. After the tasting there's a shop with very...
Read moreWe visited this winery during our stay at the Schloss Hotel in Durnstein last week. Our experience was WONDERFUL! A special THANK YOU to Nicholas, who was our guide. He gave us a great amount of information about the history of the winery, the wine making process and about each wine. His English was great, he was very informative and offered us a wide selection of wines to taste. Since the wine was so good, we purchased 2 bottles to take with us back home. My favorite was Gruner Veltliner Smaragd Kellerberg and my husband liked Gruner Veltliner V.D.N, which was a desert wine. We would highly recommend visiting...
