My family and I were passing through Durnstein during a roadtrip through Austria and stopped at the Durnsteinerhof for lunch. I'm so glad we stopped here because it was one of the best meals of our trip! It is easy to miss, the restaurant is off a narrow alley in town. The atmosphere looked super inviting and the menu looked enticing, so we decided to check it out. The dining area is a covered outdoor patio, the atmosphere was cozy and comfortable. Our waiter was excellent, very friendly and attentive. I was looking for some local wine recommendations to go with my lunch and he gave me an excellent option, I actually wrote down the name of the wine to try and find in the States. I had a pork filet with an herb sauce/gravy and some dumplings (knoedel) on the side; paired with a local chardonnay. My wife and daughter had the goulash and my son had knackwursts. I will only talk about the waiter here with the drinks being ok. While I believe politics is a private matter for many people, in this case our waiter went beyond any acceptable or civilised level. We overheard him disparaging a group of people who have fled from terror and war in a way that violates basic human decency. I cannot let this stand and believe views like these should be challenged whenever they are encountered.
