Glockengießerei Grassmayr - "Glockenmuseum" — Attraction in Innsbruck

I didn't know what to expect from the museum but thought this would be different to what we usually do on vacation. It did not disappoint! The museum is small and won't take much time, roughly 30mins to an hour), but I enjoyed learning about the history of bell making. What I really loved about this museum was that you are allowed to touch and strike the bells (within reason). It would be good for older kids probably (don't really know, don't have them). I imagine they would like striking all the bells they have. Since it's still an active foundry, you can watch the bell makers work. We missed them getting a bell out of a mold, but we did watch them get the remains of the mold off the bell. We were standing at the windows watching since we didn't know if we could go out into the work area, but the workers on the other side waves for us to go in. They have a very small garden with chimes that go off at certain times of the day, and we managed to watch that. Their shop had many bells that I wanted but really couldn't feasibly get home. They're gorgeous bells with absolutely perfect sound. To make a long story short, if you have just a bit of extra time, go. It's a little bit of a bus ride, around 15 minutes from the altstadt. Ein unerwartetes Erlebnis wartete auf uns, als wir uns nach unserem Besuch auf der Bergisel Schanze auf den Weg machten und dabei zufällig auf das Glockenmuseum Insbruck stießen. Wir entschieden uns spontan für einen Besuch und wurden nicht enttäuscht. Das Museum ist eng mit der historischen Glockengießerei Grassmayr verknüpft, welche seit 1599 faszinierende Glocken erschafft und diese Faszination in jeder Ecke des Museums spürbar ist.

Vom ersten Moment an wurden wir in die Kunst des Glockengießens eingeführt. In der Werkstatt der Glockengießerei konnten wir sehen, wie die Glocken hergestellt werden - eine beeindruckende Kombination aus traditioneller Handwerkskunst und moderner Technik. Ein informativer Film führte uns durch den Prozess der Glockenherstellung, wodurch wir das Gefühl hatten, selbst daran teilzunehmen.

Die Glockengießerei Grassmayr blickt auf eine über 400-jährige Tradition zurück, in der das Geheimnis ihrer Glockenberechnungen sorgfältig bewahrt und von Generation zu Generation weitergegeben wird. Dieses tiefe Verständnis für die Kunst des Glockengießens war in jedem Aspekt des Museums sichtbar und beeindruckte uns zutiefst.

Ein besonderes Highlight war der Klangraum, der uns ein außergewöhnliches akustisches Erlebnis bot. Hier konnten wir durch eigenes Ausprobieren viel über den Klang von Glocken lernen, was ein unvergessliches Erlebnis war. Die größte Glocke, die Friedensglocke, wiegt über 10 Tonnen und vermittelt eine Botschaft des Friedens, die uns tief berührt hat.

Die renommierte Glockengießerei Grassmayr hat ein eigenes Museum eingerichtet, das durch seine innovative Kombination aus Glockengießerei, Ausstellung und Klangraum beeindruckt. Diese kreative Umsetzung wurde sowohl mit dem Österreichischen Museumspreis des Bundesministeriums für Kultur als auch mit dem Maecenas-Preis des ORF ausgezeichnet. Aus unserer Sicht ist die größte Auszeichnung jedoch das strahlende Lächeln und die Begeisterung der Besucher, die dieses Museum verlassen.

This museum is decent, provided you visit with an all-inclusive pass like the Innsbruck card. I wouldn't say it holds up on its own. The museum is a series of about 4 rooms, one of which is a video detailing the making of a large bell in the workshop attached to the museum. I went free with the Innsbruck card, and it would have been €8 without.

It might be more fun if you have kids: there are quite a few bells in the 3rd or 4th room that you are allowed to interact with (aka, smack with mallets), but in terms of learning and appreciating things as an adult, there's not too much there.
