The hotel itself is honestly really good and it shows that it has been designed to be unique and modern. However, as much as I am more than happy to recommend the hotel, the Step Up room is a product that I must warn everyone to avoid as it's mostly form over function.
Pros ⊕ The hotel is well located ⊕ The common areas are clean and nice ⊕ The TV has an HDMI female extension ⊕ The room has a small fridge ⊕ The Climb Up room provides a great view ⊕ The look of the room is unique and good⊖looking
Note that all shortcomings are about the Climb Up room. Everything else is simply faultless.
Cons ⊖ The alternate-tread stairs have shallow steps and can be dangerous. In fact, my friend fell from them while climbing up and broke a glass. Luckily, no one was seriously hurt ⊖ The TV is an old 720p one, and since it’s just at the end of the bed, it’s very close to you, meaning the picture quality is even extra bad. A hotel at this level can absolutely afford a 4k TV ⊖ The sink is far away from the shower and the toilet ⊖ The bed is located upstairs, and thanks to thermodynamics, all hot air gathers in the area where you sleep. Even though this was winter when it’s 5 degrees outside at night, the space is constantly stuffy. There is a ceiling window that can be opened along with a Dyson fan, but the window can close automatically after some time ⊖ The ceiling window is driven by a not-so-quiet motor
Things to note ⦿ When I told the reception that I need a broom or a vacuum as my friend has fallen from the stairs with mild injuries and broken glasses, although the staff went to get a broom quickly, it was clear that they weren’t expecting this and did not know how to respond. Not trying to blame anyone, but I do think the staff should get better training for a real emergency as shown by our experience in the Climb Up room ⦿ No one is in the reception after midnight
If possible, I do think the staircase can use a redesign to be safer. In addition, the lack of airflow of the room makes sleeping in the room not much better than sleeping in a dorm. A cheap fan that can actually blow upwards from downstairs would be much more useful than a "fanless" Dyson.
The hotel itself is a solid 4/5 stars while the Climb Up room really leaves a lot to be desired as it lacks the basic sleep comfort and safety that all hotel rooms should include. The space was very clean and we are very impressed with the cleaning crew given how tricky it can be to make a bed in a tight space and keep it properly clean. The Climb Up room gets a 2/5 stars for their excellent...
Read moreMy husband Don Loeb wrote this review, but I agree and am posting it for him: Hotel Nala is an absolutely lovely little Boutique, within walking distance (10 minutes on the flat) of the train station. We found it to be the perfect spot for our trip to beautiful Innsbruck. Clean as a whistle everywhere, all the rooms are themed.
We were greeted and helped (repeatedly) by an absolutely wonderful staff. Special mention to Lea at the front desk (so pleasant and helpful) and Thomasz in the breakfast room. Interesting, kind, bright, generous, helpful people, though all the staff seemed very professional and well trained.
Our room was the Gold Room, sensibly laid out and beautifully decorated. Gold refers to the tiles in the shower and toilet, between which is a cute little window that lends light to bother . The shower is terrific, high up with plentiful hot water (what I think is called a rain shower). The room had recessed lighting and hanging black room dividers made of black fringe. You have to see it to understand how well it works. The bed was firm and wonderful. And there was a window with a little mountain view, one that could be expanded by stepping out onto a tiny balcony. There was a fridge and a safe in the room.
In addition to the tiny balcony, our room had a massive porch with reclining and regular chairs and a little table. We spent a lot of time out there. But we also spent time on an even bigger Terrace on the third floor, with mountain views and a little honor bar just inside. One of us had a beer, the other an apfelsaft—carbonated apple juice, possibly the most refreshing thing on the planet. Just try it. Lea permitted us to use the Terrace after our (free) late checkout! We had it to ourselves.
One of us thought the breakfast buffet was the best we’d ever had. The other thought it among the best. It’s hard to know where to start. It had everything: hot foods like bacon, sausage, hard and soft boiled (or scrambled) eggs, all kinds of breads, fruits, cheeses, cold cuts, juices, the best peanut butter I ever had, all kinds of coffee and tea, guacamole, and much much more. Everything was perfectly fresh, scrumptious and plentiful. We sat in the window for two hours enjoying it (and Thomasz’s company) without anyone rushing us.
There’s also a garden with a bubbling pond. Stunning. Attention to detail everywhere. We loved this little gem of a place and we loved Innsbruck as well. Highly...
Read moreThe hotel and staff: absolutely perfect and incredibly nice and helpful. As for our stay in particular: random trouble made it annoying. First I receive a call that the room card was accidentally changed and I should get the new one, so I did. That one didn't work. Three more were tried, all to end up with my original card (which had always worked). Confusing, but all right. Then, until 2am in the morning, a pretty loud group of people wasn't willing to sleep yet, so they enjoyed many hours and beers in the outdoor garden. With windows closed, it still woke us up every half hour or so. So yeah, it is communal, if you like that, but unmonitored, so those things can get out of hand (and I had to get up at 7am). Lastly, I was charged on departure (and I didn't check while paying), only to realise I had already paid (and had the charge on my card) from the booking site. So I am still chasing that second payment refund at the moment.
All that said — the hotel and the concept behind it is absolutely fantastic. They have parking, they have great staff and it was meticulously clean. But my experience seemed to be a bit off just after the COVID-19 regulations eased up, so I give them that and would very likely stay there again. Location in...
