Larger museum than I expected, particularly given the affordable ticket price. They have insects, coins, traditional crafts, nativity, science, garments... basically everything goes. The new glass building was english-friendly, the larger traditional castle was a hit and miss. Pity that they didn't fully translate, because their most unique artefacts are in the castle and I couldn't tell what I was looking at. The staff doesn't speak much English. I didn't like that they kicked out visitors way ahead of closing times. I also found the museum challenging to navigate. Overall, the collections are of international interest but the management isn't...

Do not get confused and go to this museum expecting to visit a castle as we did… this is a science/technology/nature museum, with some gothic artwork… there is next to no information available in English either.

Otherwise, I would like to say that the staff were incredibly unfriendly, we bought the ticket and headed upstairs only to be told that we MUST put our bags in a locker, and were escorted back downstairs. Would have been nice if the woman when we bought the tickets had provided us with this...

Öffnungszeiten Di - Fr 9.00 - 18.00 Uhr Do 9.00 - 21.00 Uhr Sa / So und Fei 10.00 - 17.00 Uhr Mo geschlossen

It was an interesting museum with many different areas. The levels of English varied greatly between areas, but most were understandable. They have an extensive collection of ecclesiastical objects, a science gallery and other special areas, including modern art. As it seems an add-on, I would not come here for the science area.

We did not have time to see the museum, however we did enjoy the large 3D model of the city near the entrance, that displays buildings from few hundred years back. It is possible to walk through the restaurant to a little narrow viewing terrace and enjoy a terrific panorama of the Danube and the city.
