Steffl Arena — Attraction in Vienna

The home arena for Viennas Capital icehockey team. Went for one game on a friday evening though I'm not a fan myself.

The arena itself is fairly easy to find with public transport and the U-bahn goes almost directly to the arena. Just get off by Krana and walk for 2 minutes (be aware of construction at the Krana U-bahn stop in October/November. You will then have to get off by Kranaplatz instead and walk 'back'). The arena is fairly common with a capacity of approximatly 7.000 people. They have a souvenir shop and small shops with food and beverages - all foods are native.

The seating is somewhat okay but not exactly cosy since it's metal seats. The fans seems to be friendly and there was a good atmosphere on and off the ice. Didn't understand the speaker but he seemed to get the crowds attention.

Wir haben bei einer Weihnachtstombola Karten für ein Match gewonnen. Wir waren entsprechend aufgeregt und schon etwas frührer dort. Die Karten (hinterlegt) bekamen wir ohne Probleme bei der Kassa 1. Es gibt 6 Kassakabinen, Freikarten und Reservierungen sind nur an der Kassa 1 zu beziehen. Für den Einlass war es noch zu früh, und ich mußte auf die Toilette - Trotz Securitypersonal und anderen Leuten war es nicht möglich ein WC aufzusuchen. Die Steffl-Arena ist eine beeindruckende Anlage, mit guter Akustik und freundlichen Personal. Die Verpflegung - Leberkäse, Würstel, Burger, Bier, Limonade bis hin zu PopCorn und Nachos mit Salsa gibt es reichlich. Ein Kritikpunkt der den Abend etwas trübte war die Erreichbarkeit der WC-Anlagen, diese sind nur über ziemlich steile Stufen zu erreichen. Meine Frau hat eine Gehbehinderung von Geburt an, und ich mit Parkinson (wenn die Medikamente noch nicht richtig greifen) taten uns nicht so leicht diese Örtlichkeit zu ereichen. Positiv zu vermerken ist die tolle Stimmung während des SpielesAnsonsten. Das Leitmotiv oder Leitbild des Hausvereines "Vienna Capitals" beinhaltet Themen wie Antirassismus und Antidiskreminirung und ist gut sichtbar angebracht. Das Programm war abwechslungsreich und familienfreundlich gestaltet. Das Match als solches war rasant, spannanend in jeder Phase und actionreich. Die beiden riesigen multifunktionalen Displays versorgten das Publikum mit diversen Informationen zum Thema Eishockey und zum Spiel. Am Schluß gab es ein Handshake zwischen den beiden Mannschaften. We visited the arena to watch a Vienna Capitals ice hockey game. A pretty good arena in terms of facilities but our view of one end of the ice was obstructed partly by a stairwell banister (see photo). Seemed to be a few more of these stairwells dotted across the arena, so choose your seats carefully.
