Maison de la Metallurgie & de L'industrie — Attraction in Liège

Small but very informative museum on the history of the metal-industry. They have a lot of interactive models to help understand concepts, which is great. The employee who welcomed us speaks French, English and Dutch which was extremely helpful. The only downside is that not all of the museum displays are in English/Dutch and the museum guide is not in the same order as the museum. Nice small museum with interesting expositions and good atmosphere. Texts in french but a comprehensive free guide is available in english. They have one of the few preserved steam engines in Europe.

Heel bijzonder: La Maison de la Métallurgie et de l'Industrie de Liège. Wat krijg je er te zien? Een bijzondere houtskool-gestookte originele hoogoven uit de tweede helft van de 15e eeuw. Grote blaasbalgen die aangedreven werden door de watermolen verhoogden de temperatuur en het ijzererts tot ongeveer 1500 graden waardoor het metaal ging smelten en verwerkt kon worden. Mooi om dat eens van dichtbij te kunnen bekijken (zonder vuur uiteraard). De vloer bestaat uit zware stalen tegels, het is de authentieke oude werkplaats waarin vele objecten en gereedschappen te zien zijn. Objecten zoals gereedschappen, gewichten, kogels en producten zoals de gegoten stalen haardplaten. Zeer sfeervol allemaal.
