SESC Pompéia — Attraction in Região Imediata de São Paulo

Once the star SESC of the S System “brand”, upon its reopening to the public in 1982 after Lina Bo Bardi’s striking renovation project, SESC Pompeia has long since lost its prominence in town to newer units, though remaining a cultural and social hubbub for the neighborhood. While Lina Bo’s architecture remains visually impactful and deserves a visit on its own, the furniture she designed for SESC has become a study case of uncomfortableness — seating equaling to a torture session. Try bearing half an hour in one of the wooden seats in the theater and not feeling beaten up afterwards. Even when a goddess like Mariannne Faithful is performing — and her charisma and talent turned the show into a sort of a cult, being the best performance I have watched there. The once nice “comedoria” (restaurant) — which greatly suffers from the lack of adaptability of Lina Bo’s furniture — is not worth the ridiculously long, slow moving lines, unless you are a S System user who shall pay really cheap for food that is less than cheap, and unimaginative, bland, served lukewarm at best. And I can’t fathom why they placed the children’s recreational grounds, where kids and their caretakers scream to the top of their lungs, right next to the reading area, where one finds a variety of recently published...

Wanted to love this place as the front desk and other staff are nice but the Security team is rude.

This is a building built and operated for the general public. We wanted to respectfully visit this place (which staff told us we were allowed to do) and were using the outdoor stairs to access different floors of the main building, as we saw many other visitors and community members do. However, Security told us we were not allowed to do that, despite people literally exiting the same stairwells at the same time, and requested we leave the building. No other communication followed, even when we attempted to understand and confirm what the guard was saying and what their general policies were via Google Translate.

Another Security guard then followed us around the grounds for no reason. Maybe focus on real issues at hand? I have travelled around many places and have never experienced this type of interaction, even at other SESCs in SP. Avoid if you don’t want to feel like a criminal at the hands of people on...

📌 Ambiente: O lugar é bem amplo, organizado e limpo, porém, a iluminação deixa bastante a desejar. Em todo canto paira uma penumbra. A arquitetura carregada de concreto contribui para um aspecto sombrio. Na minha visão, me lembrou muito o filme “O Poço”. Não vejo nada de belo nesse estilo de arquitetura e nas obras de artes contemporâneas que estavam ocupando o espaço. As partes mais bonitas eram o ambiente externo do Bar Café, cujas mesas se entrelaçavam com o verde, e o corredor entre os salões, que lembrou muito antigas estações de trens, lugar perfeito para tirar boas fotos.

⭐️ Atendimento: O pedido foi entregue em cerca de 5 a 10 minutos. Um tempo muito bom, considerando que pedimos muitos itens e que o lugar estava bem cheio. O atendente que nos entregou o pedido foi gentil e nos alertou para conferirmos se estava tudo certo.

🍴 Refeição: Experimentamos os seguintes itens: sanduíche agreste, sanduíche de vegetais, pão de mandioca com requeijão, pão de queijo, empada de frango, quibe de abóbora com escarola, bolo de coco, brigadeiro, sobremesa de creme de cupuaçu e capuccino. Tudo estava bem quentinho e muito bem temperado, mas os salgados que me surpreenderam mais foram o sanduíche agreste e o pão de mandioca com requeijão. O sanduíche era feito na baguete de parmesão, recheado de carne seca, queijo coalho e pimenta biquinho. A combinação ficou sensacional! O cappuccino era médio, cerca de 120 a 200ml. Tinha um gosto adoçado, mas me lembrou muito chocolate quente. Não sei se na correria do atendimento algum funcionário se confundiu. De todo modo, estava muito gostoso. Quanto aos doces, o bolo de coco estava bem molhadinho e lembrou aqueles bolos de aniversários de antigamente, que eram embalados em papel alumínio. O brigadeiro estava bem feito, adocicado na medida. Apesar do creme de cupuaçu estar bom, indico para quem gosta de sobremesas mais leves, que tem um toque de azedo no fundo.

⚖️ Custo-benefício: Paguei 84 reais nesse pedido. Seguem os preços unitários: sanduíche agreste (22), sanduíche de vegetais (11), pão de mandioca com requeijão (6,50), pão de queijo (2,50), empada de frango (7,50), quibe de abóbora com escarola (6), bolo de coco (5), brigadeiro (5), sobremesa de creme de cupuaçu (5) e cappuccino (7). Achei um valor justo tendo em vista a qualidade e quantidade oferecidas. Já fui em muitas cafeterias e posso afirmar que os preços de alguns itens servidos no Sesc são imbatíveis. A única que considero ter o melhor custo-benefício entre produtos, preços e estrutura é a Rei do Mate.
