This has got to be the prettiest beach in downtown Rio, just at the bottom of Sugar Loaf. Worlds away from urbanized and crowded beaches like Ipanema and Copacabana, it is much cozier and wilder, meaning it's not for everybody. Good for relaxing and sunbathing. Its waters are often dangerous though, red flags often placed along the sand stretch, making it not recommended for children and those who enjoy bathing, even if a life guard is always on duty. There are restaurants nearby, chairs for rent, some food sellers on the sidewalk. PS* It can get pretty crowded...

The scene from the beach is beautiful: with Babilônia Hill to the right and Sugarloaf lording over on the left. It reminds me of Sand Beach in Maine’s Acadia park.
It's probably their local beach, small and dirty, compare to Copacabana beach, which is just over the Babilônia Hill, in size and cleanliness. And very crowded during the holiday.
