I took my family of 5 Treetop trekking Last Summer. It was a great experience. Your first given a brief 15-minute lesson on how to ensure that you're safely connected to the cables. Once the instructors are confident that you will navigate the course safely, you're permitted to begin. The course starts fairly simply but does get challenging very quickly. And once you start a stage, there's no going backwards and no midpoint exits for those who 'chicken out'. You should be prepared, once you climb the ladder, you've got to get to the far end. I say this because on two occasions of the five stages I did, there were people who either had difficulty managing the challenge, or whose fear of heights got the better of them and they froze. If you have anyone with you under 5 foot tall, like my ten-year-old son, stay close at hand. In some cases the support wires would be at or above their head height making connecting the safety carabiners more challenging. They also act as handrails to walk yourself along some of the balance obstacles. This is challenging to do when the wire is over your head. In the end, he managed to do all but the final stage, which was for people over a certain height only. (to ensure you only go on the obstacles are qualified for, you are given a bracelet of a certain color. You will not be permitted to ascend the tree if you do not have the correct color level bracelet) And my son is not the most coordinated person... So most others should be fine as well. The zip line was fantastic. Definitely the highlight of the morning. You pick up quite a bit of speed, from what I understand you reach about 50 kilometers an hour. You can hear the zipline screaming as you go. Quite a rush. It is so worth the extra admission. Do not...
Read moreEverything was fine but we hated the scammy bit where they don't let you go to the advanced course because 'your time is up.' For people starting at 10am, the orientation started at 10.30am and we have proof via pictures which we took which are time stamped. Orientation was completed around 10.45-10.50am. There was a 20+ minute wait for the zipline over the lake after the first 3 courses (mind you the zip line is paid for separately so I have no idea why that time is included in the Ariel trek game). Our friends who reached prior to 1.30pm were told their time was up and they couldn't do the last course. We were told that our time was up at 1.30pm when we reached at 1.40pm so we couldn't do the advanced course. All of us were really looking forward to the advanced course so it was extremely disappointing and none of us could figure out how anyone could have enough time to do the advanced course if they had to wait for 20+ minutes for the zip line and also the orientation ended an hour after our starting time. A staff member asked us how it was and we honestly told them what happened and he kept saying we must have been late (we were there before time), their orientation was on time( we have proof it wasn't) and no answer to the 20+ minute wait time at the separately paid for zipline which was somehow included in the Ariel trek time. We have done many outdoor activities and never ever experienced this kind of scammy behavior. Also, all the guides were pretty much non existent in the 3rd and 4th courses. Nobody cared if you were following rules or not. They weren't even visible at times. So yeah, please be mindful of these things when you book with...
Read moreI had a fantastic time at Tree Top Trekking @ Heart Lake! I did the 1-hour Red Tailed Hawk excursion. This excursion consisted of a ladder to take you up to the trees and a series of suspension bridges. I'm not going to lie, I was a bit nervous as first. The first 70% of the trip I was worried of not falling off. At the end, I really started to enjoy myself.
Make sure to wear a jacket/shirt with a zippered pocket to stow your phone so you can keep your phone with you if you want to take pictures. Great to have your phone handy to capture the two great lookout points of the lake! Try not to drop your phone ;). Also, if possible have someone on the ground take your photo as well, to show how high up you are.
The excursion was well organized. The guides assigned to your time slot do a great job of being present in the tree tops in case if you need help in guiding your safety rope along. I felt pretty safe throughout. The guides were constantly in communication with the other guides via walkie-talkie updating each other the whereabouts about of each group on the obstacle course.
I would recommend bringing gloves, because your hands can chafe with all of the rope handling. Make sure to truly arrive 20 minutes before your session because signing the waiver and getting geared up does take around 20 minutes.
I look forward to my next trip! p.s. Try not to look down! Feel free to check out the gorgeous trails on...
