Visited family over the weekend last week and I had to google up indoor pickle courts near the airport hotel we were staying at. This was the first recommended one. The location is very convenient especially if you are having a long layover and want to sweat it out, this would be your best bet to play pickleball and go back to the airport in time. The facility is clean, new, and the staff were highly accommodating. The best thing about it was you can rent high end paddles during your play. You can also switch paddles anytime during your rental time. The online booking is simple and easy to navigate. The first noticeable aspect are the courts and how close it is to the fences. You won't be able to catch a baseline bouncing serve without hitting the fence with your paddle. You can do an ernie but be careful of the wall and fence. The courts are probably meant for high control plays. There are net curtains for those high lobbed out balls. It will prevent balls from going to the next court but it does almost always find a small gap to get through the fences. My family had a great experience and we will definitely come back to this facility. I've already brought friends to play for the first time and they were surprised to know that indoor pickleball exists. A water station is available and the washrooms are comforting. There is a bench in the washroom for you to use when changing. The couches are comfortable. Also a neat detail that they have a paddle tray to put your paddles in for when you win or almost win. Thank you to the YYC Pickleball staff for a good experience

First time trying pickleball and going to this facility - overall it was a very fun time and the facility is nice, but there are a few things that dampened the experience. First the 'intro' lesson was overly long - it ended up running over an hour and honestly, we were just all getting bored and anxious to just start playing. We don't need to spend 15m bouncing a ball on a paddle.. just my opinion! Accessing the various courts is through pieces of corkboard attached with zip ties and double sided tape, maybe temporary measure? Just didn't seem very complete or durable. The facility is super bright, but if a ball goes up high you get absolutely blinded by the lighting.. it was frustrating. Lastly some of the courts have fences VERY close to the backline, so a deep serve is overly difficult to hit due to the fence being in the way. I'm not sure anything could be done for it, but it added some frustration.

Checked out YYC Pickleball for open play. There’s 7 indoor courts. Courts are $28.00/33.00 per hour (non-prime/prime). Like how you can view court availability by day/week/month on the website. Paddle rentals are $5.00 or $8.00 for higher end. Best bang for your buck is the open play drop-in punch card ($50.00 for 5, $160.00 for 22), otherwise it’s $15.00/person. Night hawk open play (5 courts) started as a free for all but eventually, one worker took charge and organized people by their level. Power nooner intermediate open play (2 courts) was better. Facilities are decent (water refill station and couch sitting areas) but no real change room. Sound’s loud and echoey, difficult to hear score calling. Downside is the court layout; have to walk behind other people’s courts to get to the middle/far ones.

Not a bad place but certainly not ideal. The prices are okay - 1.5 hours of court time was about $50. Slightly more expensive than the nearby competition. The staff are all very friendly.

The courts are divided by nets on the long edge. There only seems to be one net dividing the courts so if you're on the unlucky side, your ball will fall into the court on the side. The short edges are divided by a small fence. Occasionally the ball can go over the fence and into another court. The fences are also quite close to the back line so for deep serve returns, it can be quite challenging to get a good shot, especially for tall people with long arms who aren't able to have a full range of motion.

There's also the issue of getting to the back courts. You have to walk through at least one other court on the way which can be pretty annoying both for the person forced to cut through and the player on the court. Court 6 frequently has staff walking through the court as there is a storage area at the back. It really shows a lack of foresight, and there doesn't seem to be a desire to solve this problem. I can appreciate that the owners aren't able to change the location of the supportive pillars but there's got to be a layout that works better than what it is.

I've played here three times. Twice were during non peak hours and the environment was definitely manageable. The last time I played, the courts were full and it was very echo-y and really difficult to even say the score without yelling. With the summer opening up, I'm looking forward to there being more options for...

YYC Pickleball is an excellent pickleball facility in terms of court quality, staff, and atmosphere. I’ve been to a few in Calgary and this one just might be my favourite. It doesn’t feel stuffy at all and there’s a good mix of people who come here in terms of skill levels and interest in the sport. The staff/ownership are friendly and seem genuinely interested in improving things and learning about the experience players have with the facility. There’s also a monthly mixer, and while I haven’t participated myself, I’ve been around while it’s happening and people seem to get a lot of enjoyment out of it while meeting new people. I think anyone could come here and have a great time.

I also took an intermediate class with Arturo Bueno and I think he’s an exceptional instructor. He explains things in a way that makes it really clear to understand what you’re developing in your game, and I found his drills would often work on multiple elements of my game at once while still being fun to do. He’s also just a fun,...
