Cavendish Maples Cottages — Attraction in Cavendish

An unfortunate stay due to a lot of different factors…

When we first booked with this place we were promised a pool and a hot tub as it was advertised as one of the amenities only to find out they had closed it early. They gave us a different answer as to why they closed is than they did another couple on the grounds that we spoke to, but either way we ended up changing our accommodations to this one due to the pool and hot tub and we’re disappointed it wasn’t there.

After getting to our cabin, we found that it was quite dirty, as it had crumbs all over the counter tops and none of the tables had been properly wiped down. We ended up having to walk down to the office to get cleaning supplies so we could clean it ourselves and we’re a little annoyed. The lady at the front desk ended up giving us a little gift as an apology for that, so it definitely helped us feel a little bit better.

We later found out that the cabins aren’t actually cleaned each day as they like to still use Covid as an excuse, so we again had to ask for a mop and bucket to wash our own floors each day as we had a baby crawling around.

We also went to inquire about a late checkout the night before while the office was still open and we’re ignored until the morning where we were sent a condescending text message about “respecting the checkout time”.

When I brought our dismay to the office as we were checking out, I was stared at blankly and essentially ignored. There wasn’t any sort of apology or any sort of resolution, which I found a little embarrassing as someone who has worked in customer service for so long.

We came during off season, so we knew we would need to make a few sacrifices however this was a little too much for the price we paid. All in all, I would not...

We stayed at Cavendish Maples for one day/night a week ago and really enjoyed our cottage and the set-up of the whole place. Clean and quiet - a good distance from the busy road. We had a one bedroom deluxe which was perfect for us - just the right amount of space and everything we could want/need. Loved that it had a propane fireplace which we used at night and in the morning when it was cool outside (great customer service from a nice gentleman from the office who came to our cottage right away and lit it for us because it wasn't working - hadn't been used all summer - lit up perfectly with the flick of a switch after that). Unfortunately it was too windy to enjoy one of the nice outdoor fire pits - but really great that they are provided and include firewood. We took advantage of borrowing a Cavendish Beach Park pass from the office (a very nice perk of staying here!) and drove along the route getting out along the way and taking in the gorgeous scenery of the red cliffs, and walking along the beach. We also borrowed one of the DVD movies from the office which we enjoyed that night, cuddled up in front of the cozy fireplace in our cottage. We were very excited to stay here. We actually cancelled a pre existing reservation to come here instead because we saw they had a pool and hot tub. Unfortunately, despite advertising this the pool and hot tub were CLOSED. We got to the cottage and it was what we expected minus the fact there were crumbs all over the table and counters. We had multiple severe allergies in our group and couldn’t trust the cleaning that was done… so we requested supplies and cleaned the cottage better then they do between stays… if we had questions about anything to do with PEI the owner seemed very annoyed and looked at us like we have ten heads. We’ve never been to this province before so we had genuine questions. We met some lovely people also staying at these cottages and they were all SO sweet!! Some were from PEI. They were also very upset about the pool and hot tub being closed as it was advertised as open. You don’t get what you pay for unfortunately and we didn’t like entering what appeared to be an uncleaned cottage before our stay. Cavendish is beautiful but everything is closed during off season (I mean EVERYTHING). So consider this when booking in off season times. Customer service here was less then satisfactory to say the least.. we’ll be taking our money else...
