There is little to no security available for your belongings while using this facility, so patrons… beware. Their facility is not secure and the change rooms are broken into regularly. Unfortunately we have become victims of theft due to the lack of security/employees. The fact that this theft occurred and 8 lockers were broken into by crowbar and was not stopped is unfair to people using the facility. It is warned to not bring valuables into the building, however what are patrons supposed to do with their belongings while in the pool? This location is currently being targeted by career criminals who know exactly what they are doing and the Rec center has done absolutely nothing to prevent this from happening. They simply hand you a printed form of where to call if you’ve had your belongings stolen. Hard to do when your cellphone gets stolen from your locked locker. These criminals can hack into phones to hack your personal data, and unfortunately this has resulted in us losing a $1500 phone and thousands of dollars in charges to cards. The theft occurred and was NOT announced to anyone, my husband didn’t even know he had been victim of this crime until over an hour after it happened, once he was done in the pool. Had the patrons been notified of a theft that just happened, we would not have these thousands of dollars of charges on our cards. The fact that patrons weren’t notified immediately is disgraceful!!! We will not be returning and will not recommend...
Read morePool facility is fantastic relatively clean, lots of fun things to do with kids. Hence the 3 stars, where the facility falls short are the expectations of the life guards.
Most are genuinely good. On Father’s Day my two kids and I were at the facility together ages 12 and 9 both capable swimmers passed the test in the waves all children at this facility all children under a certain age are expected to do. No issue with that.
My issue is my eldest and I were in the hot tub together sitting. The life guard (In training) comes up to me and tells me that I need to be within arms length of my youngest. Even though she’s in the shallow end of the pool and I can see her.
I’ve been to plenty of pool spaces with my kids all over the city never had this issue. I can understand being in arm’s length in the deep end of the pool. However the shallow end? Should be a non issue unless it’s a toddler. What’s the point of the swim test? If the kid can’t be free to have fun alone in the shallow end?
This guard (in training) clearly is on some sort of power trip. His body language was poor looked miserable. So we left earlier quite frankly. Unfortunate we were having a great time up until that point.
Clearly there is no consistent standard for safety at this pool. Been there a few times without issue up until now. Will we be back? My kids certainly don’t want to return at the moment to be honest. It was very off putting to...
Read moreMe and my family rarely go to Millwoods rec centre. Unfortunately my boy has to go there for his ranger patrol swimming class, because it is only near location for this level of swimming. On very first day within 5 min the instructor named “Naomi” kicked him out by saying that he doesn’t have previous level certificate in his hand as he has lost it before and also she was so rude and used inappropriate words to my 10 year old boy which were never acceptable. My boy came home with teary eyes and he told me that the instructor was so racist. She was more attentive to other 2 Canadian kids. I approached the program manger and she was communicating good on phone but the day we went there to speak with them she totally changed her colour and stating that the instructor is very senior and I should be careful while talking with her. But as a parent I don’t care who’s senior or junior, they must know the right approach of communication towards children and treat them equally. She was literally sarcastic and mannerless instructor who has full support from her manager. We got the certificate from meadows and showed them. We approached city of Edmonton but they just shut the topic by saying that they already spoke with instructor. This kind of solution is not very productive but I hope that the instructor will use her manners in future very well. I feel sorry for these kind of instructors who has some loose...
