Jimmy Thompson Memorial Pool — Attraction in Hamilton

The customer service attendant at the entrance was friendly.

The pool is long and clean. The shallow end begins at 3 feet. It has a deep end that begins at half the length of the pool at the depth of five feet and gradually gets deeper. The pool is large enough to have about three to four lanes width for a leisure swim sectoin while three more lanes are partitioned at the same time for lane swims. It has a swimmer's timer clock with the four multi-coloured hands.

Unfortunately your belongings may not be safe here. They do not have lockers. There appears to be a "check in" room for belongings but no one was attending to it and appears no one has for a long time.

If you don't feel comfortable leaving your belongings in the change room I saw many patrons take their belongins in their bags to the pool and leave them by the bleachers. The pool is intended for competitions and surrounded by bleachers on all sides. I recommend you bring an extra bag for your clothes and shoes if you plan to take your belongings with you to the swimming pool area so you can leave them on the bleachers.

The showers in their change room are one button shower stalls like you see in beaches and many public swimming facilities. I found the temperature of the water from the showers too hot. I'm not sure if there is a way to change the temperature of the showers as they one-button type showers. I was lucky to find a shower in the corner that was just warm enough and not scalding hot like the rest of the showers.

I think the pool has potential for better customer service if they have secure places for patrons to store their belongings like lockers or have someone attend the "coat room/check in" section of their facility. Having adjustable temperatures for their showers and hooks in the shower stall for towels would...

The pool is great and cheap if you buy a 10-visit clip card or a monthly membership. I recommend the clip card because it does not expire. If you travel, get sick, or cannot go swimming for any other reason, you won't lose $. The most annoying part is dealing with the reception lady who insists on checking a vaccination receipt and the driver's license each time, although she knows the regulars by name. When I suggested that she added our vaccination status to our accounts, as many other places did, she told me to stop talking to her lol. I have never been to this pool but would like to someday. the city of Hamilton made the right choice keeping this old pool and giving the choice between the old and the new if given the choice I would choose the old pool I personally don't like wave pools or lazy rivers I just like a good old fashioned pool that gives you the feeling of swimming in a enclosed room there are not much of these pools left and the city of North Battleford demolished my favourite pool that was built in 1966 I do not like my city's new pool given the choice I would pick the old one I will give this...
