Four of us went there for the "one night only" worldwide viewing of Daft Punk's Interstella 5555.

The theatre was nice and clean (including bathrooms), and the staff who checked us in and working the snack counter were all super nice.

The actual viewing experience was lacking, unfortunately. The seating is built level, not on an incline. All of us were dealing with the heads of other patrons. The audio system was definitely on par with your standard independent theatre that hasn't updated its audio. While definitely not able to provide the kind of dynamic range this experience would normally offer, I highly doubt it has any ability to produce any kind of impactful audio. Very much geared towards what I assume are the foreign films and independent dramas I assume are usually on offer.

The reason for the "one night only" in quotes is while the Daft Punk offical website, instagram, and all advertising clearly stated it was a one night only worldwide experience, this theatre took it upon themselves to offer a second showing two days later. In my opinion, this immediately took away from the efforts I underwent to ensure procurement of my tickets and the exclusivity the experience was to provide everyone. One of a kind isn't that anymore when...

I LOVE this theatre, however I must mention the sound is consistently too loud. Ive come plenty of times over the years and each time ive enjoyed my stay but left with a huge headache. The high pitched noises in movies, often part of the soundtrack, get loud enough that your ears ring and ive often had to plug my ears during scores. I actually just came out of Alan Cross' pink floyd show today and the footage shown of the concert was so insanely loud it didn't even sound like music in some sections, it was just ear-bleeding noise.

This is my ONLY complaint about the theatre; the staff is consistently kind and personable, the bookstore is awesome, the concession stand is well priced and has delicious snacks. I've introduced plenty of family and friends to this theatre that have come to love it as much as i do. Just turn down the...

Grand traditional theatre restored and awesome. Arrived too early but was able to wait on a chair inside. Theatre seating was comfortable even for my Princess and the Pea sensitivity. Sound quality was exemplary - not too quiet nor too loud. Last I was there, I saw Memoria with Tilda Swinton. This time I took in "The Young Arsonists.' Sheila Pye examines the inception of female rage and its origins in trauma and wounding in a coming of age for teen girls. She handles all her instruments with artistic surgical precision. Her audience included family members. They appeared shocked at her victorious defiance of conventions. The ending speaks to the power of feminist gaze. (Where one cannot but help think about her choice of Maddie Martin as one of two co-leads/actors - exactly how autobiographical was...

Amazing staff and experience every time I've been. The restoration of this old theatre looks amazing. Plays a lot of movies that you wouldn't get a chance to see anywhere else including older movies that haven't been shown on the big screen for decades which is always a treat. They also just got a 35mm projector and haven't been showing quite a few films on it lately which look incredible because you can't get that warm and rich viewing experience on digital. All cinephiles and casual movie goers alike should take an opportunity to go see a film here. Also has a great snack bar with a wide selection and is even licensed. only one thing i would wish for is a bit more variety of films on a regular basis instead of the current schedule of playing some films a bunch of times, so that i could go more often.

Love Playhouse Cinema. I have been going there since it reopened in 2019. Watching new and especially classic films there is a real treat. The isles are spacious and the seats are comfortable. They have delicious treats from Listowel and now Jam Up the Mash Sours by Collective Arts. In September I watched Star Wars and Goldfinger back to back. It was fantastic getting to watch them on a big screen. Just over a week ago I watched The Shinning and The Rocky Horror Picture Show back to back. So much fun. Their membership is reasonable at $14. It allows you to procure a ticket for $10...most films. The membership also gets you a movie snack combo deal. The theatre is full of charm, great vibes and always offers a fantastic selection of films...new and old.
