I would like to extend my heartfelt appreciation for the wonderful guided tour that led us through the rich historical site in Markham. It was truly an inspiring and educational experience, allowing us to connect with the city’s vibrant past and heritage.
The preservation of key landmarks like the train station, chapel, blacksmith shop, and variety hall within the museum is not only impressive but deeply meaningful. These authentic settings bring history to life and offer visitors a unique opportunity to step back in time and understand the roots of the community.
I would like to kindly encourage the City to continue investing in the protection and promotion of these historic sites. Increasing funding and resources for heritage conservation will ensure that future generations can enjoy and learn from these treasures. Additionally, enhancing public education—perhaps through school programs, interactive exhibits, and more frequent guided tours—would be a wonderful way to raise awareness and appreciation for Markham's cultural legacy.
Thank you again for your dedication to preserving history. Your efforts make Markham not just a city of the future, but also a proud guardian...
Read moreWent to visit the museum for doors open on Saturday but the door is only open for their building (very limited - kids play area and art artifacts and displays) and not their main attraction, which is their outdoor heritage village. I was told that there was a private event booked so was not allowed to go outside to look at historical buildings. I understand that I didn’t pay to get in, but doors open is to promote their facility and allow people to experience it. So allowing someone to host their private event and close off the main attraction of the museum is very off putting and strips a visitor of getting the full experience. The whole family was looking forward to see the heritage village. Very disappointing. Poor management and organization. We brought our kids there to get outdoors, not to be cooped up inside to play with toys, they can do that anywhere. I definitely would not pay to visit it. What if the next visit I make has another private...
Read moreVisited for the Lunar Nights Year of the Dragon Festival on February 17, 2024.
The inside museum exhibit is fairly small and is not re-decorated/organized for the purpose of the Lunar Festival. Just an extra thing to do there.
The highlight should have been the decorations and lanterns outside, however, they were mediocre and lacked effort. Random types of lantern lights were just placed long the path, e.g. pandas, and even Christmas lights were used at some point...? There was not much thought put into the celebration of Lunar New Years and the Year of the Dragon.
The ice skating rink was way too small for anyone to skate but I assume this was meant for children including snowshoeing.
There was a lack of food vendors... only a beverage bar and 2 food vendors.
Overall, for the price of $25, this is way too expensive and definitely not...
