A wonderful National Historic Site and well worth a visit. The Manor can only be visited through a guided tour, which I highly recommend. The 45-minute tour gives fascinating insights into the Papineau family, their bourgeois lifestyle in the 1800s and 1900s, and the history of the region. About 80% of the artifacts and furnishings are original, which makes the experience even more impressive. Read moreI discovered Manoir Papineau National Historic Site in 2017 when I moved to Quebec from Florida. I love history and architecture and Manoir Papineau became one of my favorite places to visit. Very beautiful walk in the mature treed park, the main house is a wonderful example of classic Georgian architecture style. Very elegant! Great spot for having a romantic photo session. Also, the close proximity to Ottawa River and luxurious Chalet Fairmont Resort; all these marvelous places are in walking distance....
Read moreBit of a walk in a trail to reach this site - about 1km or so so nothing terrible. Was disappointed that most of the site was actually closed off when we visited. With the guided tour, we were only allowed to visit half a dozen rooms at ground level and an empty library. The chapel and other floors of the manor were closed which really didn't leave much left to see. You can easily be in and out in an hour or so which left us a little bitter.
