We were in Montebello Sunday to Tuesday. After visiting the Christmas Market on its last day December 8th. My friend /colleague and I walked through the town and decided we would have late lunch early dinner at Le Bistro Montebello. They closed between 15h00 and 16h00, no problem. We came back and saw people inside at 15h45. They mentioned the kitchen was closed and we made reservations at 16h00. My friend who has back problems asked if she could sit and wait inside for 15 minutes. There would be no issue if they had said no its not possible. However the 20 something young lady was rude, impolite and angrily said NO. She could have been more polite and said its unfortunately not possible due to manager policy. Then realised her rudeness and said you can wait between the doors. Before we were even seated at our table, we were told to hurry up with our mean that we had the table from 1600 to 18h00. In an empty restaurant, we were place at a table with crying children. Asked to move the reply was again no. We were not given any menus or wine menu and the 20 something unsmiling waitress asked as if we wanted something to drink. I said , We would love to however we have no menu to choose drinks from? Another 20 something waitress brought water. I asked for water with no ice at room temperature. Instead of going to get water at room temperature, she simply moved the ice and poured ice cold water in my glass. We finally get a menu and we both decided on French Onion Soup and share some fries. French Onion soup takes some time to prepare, however it was ready in 15 minutes. Which we found odd. We were served the soup, no bread and the fries came. Have way through our soup two glasses of red wine arrived already poured. It should have been served before our food order. There was a strange bar stool next to our table ,which was used for the bread. The soup was not piping hot but warm and relatively good , not exceptional. As we shared the fry , I noticed blond hair in our fries and one that was already in my mouth We told the server that there was hair in the fries. He reply was ... oh okay.. sorry! She did not care! She asked us if we wanted the desert menu and I said well not after there was hair in my food . She brought us the bill after less than 45 minutes at the table for our meal. Clearly we were wanted out as soon as possible. She did not comp the inedible fries, did not offer an apology. She did not ask how are meal was, did not ask if we wanted a refill of water, wine, coffee. It is a very adorable little place and could be a fantastic local favourite. However the 5 generation Z that engaged with us from start to finish need some training in hospitality, empathy, service, language, body language. I understand it is hard to get good, experienced and passionate staff who understand good service. I sympathise with the owner. For the remainder of our stay , I never ventured out to eat in any of the restaurants for fear of poor service and...
Read moreWe loved both of our visits to Restaurant Le Bistro Montebello! This place is very popular with both locals & tourists. A reservation is definitely recommended. We showed up for our reservation an hour early hoping to get a table since we were hungry. The hostess warmly greeted us & got us a table quite promptly even though the place was pretty full on a Sunday night.
Our server was so kind to offer and try to translate the 3 course menu which was posted on a board attached to the wall. She did a wonderful job & we appreciated her attempt.
My husband ordered the steak frites and I had the bison flank steak. We both asked for it to be done medium rare & the temperature came out perfectly. The creamy shallot sauce that came with both dishes was a big hit! Good enough to be bottled. The rebellion blue cheese on the bison steak added a nice richness to this dish but was not heavy or overpowering. The quartered potatoes were crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside.
The Stella beer my husband ordered was beautifully poured with a good amount of head & from a clean tap.
The ambiance of the place was just right. Lively but not too loud.
We came back the next day for their wood-fired pizza. We weren't a fan of this as our preference is Neapolitan style but we were impressed as this the only place that served our first slice to us on our plate. It was a nice touch! I also had their French onion soup as a starter and it was sooooooo good.
We would definitely come back here again & would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good food and...
Read moreWe stopped by at this restaurant for lunch during our round trip. The parking area was full and there was only less empty tables at lunch time / afternoon. We had to wait a few minutes for an empty table next to a family (tables were placed very close to each other). We had onion soup, salad, ravioli and hamburger steak. As starter, we got pizza bread with butter because the restaurant is common for their housemade pizzas. The pizza bread were tasty. The onion soup was good but very thick. Reminded us of a cream soup. The salad with maple syrup was very good, i loved the dressing. The hamburger steak turned out to be only burger patties without bread (we just ordered this dish as "hamburger" and got no notice from the waiter that it was a hamburger steak) and tasted okay. Sides that came with the hamburger steak were fries and the same salad as ordered as starter (waiter did not mention that and that's why we had food leftovers). The Ravioli came with too much vegetables which is NOT common for Ravioli and tasted only okay (filling was not good). I ordered the truffel oil separately since I am not a fan of too much concentrated oil on my dish when I don't know the quality of the truffel oil (which tasted not that good). We paid about 90$ incl. taxes for the lunch which is really expensive for quality of the food. The food was okay (salad was very good) but it was too expensive for food quality and service. I would recommend the salad but not the rest of our chosen dishes or...
