A nice place to take your kids. My brother and his family have a membership here, which allows you to come a certain number of times a year. Make sure to bring the punch card with you because they don't have an online system to check your membership.
There is an indoor/museum like portion that also has some activities for kids to do. It's about 4-5 rooms. They also have a big train inside and some beautiful paintings. Outdoors there's some really old cars and trucks you can look at. They have a little cafeteria that is very reasonably priced. The concessions are limited - hot dogs, popcorn and ice cream really, but good for a little snack or simple lunch. They also have picnic tables outside and you can bring your own food too.
They have a train ride around the property that even has a stop half way through to go to the playground and look around. You can ride back on the train, or stay and walk back on your own or catch the next train too.
There is a lot to explore. For instance, with my nephew we went to check out one of the trains you could play on, and the pumpkin patch with big sunflowers. We also went into the little houses to see how people lived and worked, as well as the school house and post office. We were there for a couple of hours total, and we didn't even look...

Read moreI just pulled over to talk on the phone not realizing what this actually was. It was pouring but I did a little exploring and learning about forestry on Van Isl. There is a Duncan information center I think as well. But this seems to represent what in all likelihood was what built most of the communities along with fishing and mining here on the Island. Since moving here 7 years ago I've always been a little amazed at seeing Logging trucks which are all but instinct on the mainland. This is a great way to educate kids on how things were done and if it wasn't they probably wouldn't be visiting there. I like to start with trains and big things to get them all excited and how dangerous these jobs were. I know in the latest generation of kids it's a hard sell with the ecological based society we live in with electric cars ,recycling and pollution regulations. But our forefathers worked themselves sometimes to death to make this country what it is. They incorporate recycling and the new way of life into the past and this past is really not that long ago. Yeah ,it really became a long...
