When my dad isn't baking at his Tim Hortons (48 Tenth St., Nanaimo), and maybe feels a bit sad -typically whenever orders of seasonally coloured sprinkles fail to arrive- he drives to other regional Tim Hortons. He's a minor celebrity in the Nanaimo doughnuts circle, so chooses to attend establishments incognito; he'll either dress up as a White Spot cook (so he can continue to be sad about his sprinkles) or he'll drive to Duncan (where he can be happy by way of relativism).
To save my new old dad the bus fare, I drove him to this Duncan donuts place. We mistakenly sat down in the talk-about-roofing-materials section, whereas my dad and I are talk-about-pressure-washers kind of guys. There was an obvious divide. And not only was that divide divisive (ketchup packets laid end to end in a line), but cousin Doug was there, talking up psi and nozzle velocities etc. He even had the gall to suggest that rednecks were like hipsters in that their signature move was to point out rednecks with redder necks than them.
You might imagine how my poor dad must've been feeling by now. But I watched him. Closely. He relaxed, and met some ol fella called Chaz who claimed to have been the first person to say "are you working hard, or hardly working?" Chaz also seemed to take to my dad, and said that he was there when my dad had won Silver in the '00 Nanaimo Doughlympics. Seems my dad had lost because his sprinkles were out of season. Chaz told him to buck up, because doughnuts with sprinkles tend to clog eavestrough downspouts faster than most other roof doughnuts, and that they were even worse than the dreaded Boston Creams.
Anyway, Doug heard this.. saw this tender moment (tenderer than the New Tim Hortons Turkey Club Sandwich!!) and didn't seem to care at all.
3 stars because I forgot to put the radiator cap back on earlier and dad and I both had...
Read moreso disappointed with the service at this location. used to be super friendly, fast, and this morning i got into the drive they at 630, did not get to the window until 647, and was NOT EVEN ACKNOWLEDGED for another 2 mins!! the window was open so i could clearly hear and see multiple employees chatting between themselves and storefront customers. one even had a headset in their hands and was tossing it back and forth between his hands while talking to a customer inside - and he made eye contact with us multiple times while doing so!!! i had to call out to get someone’s attention and they were not apologetic when i told them i was disappointed with having to wait 20 minutes for coffee. there were 6 people that i could see from the drive thru window. it’s not like there was 2 people running around inside - there were multiple people DOING NOTHING. standing and chatting with themselves or storefront customers. i have friends that work in other fast food places and they all say drive thru is priority. well, not today! do not go to this tim hortons if you expect fast service, or even friendly service. i’ve been a tim’s regular for 10 years and this experience has left such a foul taste in my mouth - literally - i’m never coming back. going to find a local coffee shop to give...
Read moreI came in shortly after midnight to get a sandwich with my mother, and we got nothing but disrespect over the intercom from a Philippino lady. I asked for a small peach refresher and she said she didn't have any lemonade for it so sh3 asked if we wanted a frozen something, and we said no its ok, and continued ordering. She didn't respond after the next item so we waited and said hello ... was so quiet we almost drove away, but then she finally responded and she got snappy and said "hello? I'm asking you a question", where we then responded with ' no thank you' again. Then when we asked about whether they had potato wedges or not, she snapped back saying she said they had no hot food... so we kindly finished our order and proceeded to the window. I mentioned to the younger lady who took our payment at the window (and who clearly didn't take our order originally), that whoever took our order was a little snappy, and we got a rude glare and smile from the girl at the window, who said nothing else. I have worked both tim hortons and YEARS of customer service and we definitely didn't expect to get treated with such disrespect for no reason. We will make sure to drive extra to avoid this tim hortons next time because that was completely...
