To be honest I thought this place would be better. As someone who is in the reptile hobby, seeing the lack of enrichment in the enclosures was sad. Majority was snakes you can find at an exotic store, expo or even kijiji. The enclosures didn't look like they had proper lighting, enclosure types/size not suitable for certain species. Ex. Box turtle kept in a tall enclosure, should be more walking space than height, the large sulcata with MBD are just like cows and should be grazing - looked mad depressed. These guys have so much personality so it was sad to see. The other sulcata only had a small basking spot and nothing else, should be lit up, same goes for the redfoot/cherry head tortoises - don't get why their enclosures were so dark. Then the majority of enclosures were empty, but saw a turtle hatchery was going to be placed, hopefully it's for endangered/rare species as there are too many in the hobby (ex. Red ear sliders) that don't have homes.
The crocs were very neat to see especially how large the Niles are. But besides that to someone who doesn't know about reptiles, it's like going to a dog pound with how the enclosures are. The chameleon looked stressed and was clawing at the top to get away, should have way more vines. Pothos are incredibly easy plants and grow very quickly.
This place has so much potential to add some passion into the enclosures and species variety. Instead of concrete, which I understand is easier for cleaning, bioactive is really good for reptiles, gives better color, enrichment and look. Misting system and overall matching their natural habitat with plant species would do wonders in attracting more people, then educating them on hey this is how to properly care for them, it shouldn't be just the basics.
The zookeeper who fed the iguanas on Monday had his plants falling down and rear exposed to the crowd. Buy a belt and have some pride, as an educator its you should have more professionalism than that.
For 20$ an adult, expensive for what it was and tbh wouldn't...
Read moreWe just came home from our morning spent at Reptilia. What a fabulous experience, my kids are 6 and 3 years old and really enjoyed their visit.
We arrived at 10am for open, it was very quiet and we enjoyed a leisurely stroll through the zoo at our own pace. It did start to pick up but never crowded, we watched the first show at 11am to see and pet three different reptiles and then made our way to the alligator feeding for 11:45am.
Your admission gives you access all day with in and out privileges. Since my 3 year old still naps we had to leave at noon and stopped at the Kelsey’s in the same parking lot for a quick lunch.
We were constantly in awe with the cleanliness of the exhibits and the facilities, the reptiles were so close and easy to view. It didn’t smell or overly hot. The water in the exhibits was crystal clear and just overall impressed with the quality. The reptiles all looking healthy, happy and active.
The staff was so friendly and the zoo keeper who did the show and brought the turtle out to see up close was knowledgeable and great with the kids.
There is a Dino sand pit and indoor playground for the kids, including a mirror maze — a perfect spot to kill time before a feeding. There were several other feedings scheduled throughout the day and you can easily find times posted around the zoo.

Read moreMy son had his 6th birthday party here last year. I paid for what I thought was additional animals but it ended up being "upgrades" of "lesser" animals which was not clear at all. Animals were passed around very quickly and lasted just under 15 minutes for 5 animals. I tried to get a photo of the snake around my son's shoulders but the zookeeper gave me about 5 seconds, and it is was a bit candid of a photo. Very rushed.
The room was completely blank, but advertised as decorated. There is also a mascot advertised but he/she wasn't present either.
While we were walking through the zoo, an exhibit door was left open, which I believe was to an iguana? However, I'm pretty sure the animal was safe and sound.
The playground was nice, but it was clearly the wrong sand for the sand box. You could see the dust in the air as the kids played, and that is absolutely being breathed in. As a result, we kept the playground very short.
Gift shop is significantly over priced. I found similar items cheaper at African Lion Safari.
My son got a free pass for a year because he had a birthday there, but we are a family of 4, and I haven't gone back once as I'm not paying for 3 admissions because 1 person is free.
Three stars is probably high, but the kids had a good time despite what I would call false advertising and...
