Shop here all the time...I'm a total regular. But damn Food basics... I'm not expecting fancy grey poupon mustards or shaved meats sliced right in front of you.. I am however expecting you to at least keep your stocked items ROTATED AND NOT EXPIRED. I am finding items are not being rotated on the regular and this is resulting in the average Joe coming home with a bag full of expired product... like this jetpuffed marshmallow stuff (it's awesome on all sorts of desserts.) What? Jetpuffed marshmallow creme When? Bought: June 6, 2019 --- Expired: Jan 23, 2018 The product is on the shelf and it expired well over a year and half ago! WTF? (Image attached) Staff at this location are helpful and my average grocery bill is tolerable. Update 7/21: Place has been updated since my review.. The produce looks much better, haven't come across any expired product. Looks like Corporate got involved and made everything nice and shiny..including the buggies with a new locking system. Business as usual.

Produce freshness is awful here as the store does a very poor job of clearing out moldy produce. Everytime I shop here, I find many items that are molding, rotten or smell off and therefore have to shop at a different store specifically for fruits and vegetables. For example, the kale regularly smells like mildew and most of the "fresh" berry containers have moldy or rotton berries. Not sure how produce staff are missing the clear signs of mold, or if the issue lies with management not taking quality and health hazards seriously. I highly recommend you think twice before coming here for fresh food and consider driving the extra few minutes down the road to Fresh Co, which is cheaper with far superior product quality.

This is one of my favorites to purchase grocery items. There well stocked and the check out is fast and efficient. Good shopping expérience. They have a great pharmacy and this is a well maintained store. I luvs the size and variety of this store and they are competitive price wise. They have great produce and the managers take their departments seriously. I never see personal standing around texting which is very common in Walmart. Sorry Walmart but I report what I see. If your looking for a little something something or feeding 60 people. Food Basics on Wonderland Rd South in London will accommodate all your foodie needs. Luv Malcom💪😎💙Stay strong London.

I have had a few issues with produce going bad way before it should from Food Basics. The staff have always done and exchange no problem but this shouldn't have to happen. Prices are good. The store needs a makeover as its looked the same for years.

Update September 29th 2024

I have been shopping at Food Basics and specifically for over 10 years. I worked next door to them for 3 years and know some of the staff well as they are some of my customers.

Today was very embarrassing for me. If I go through self checkout I am slow. Two reasons for this are 1. I like to see my total slowly and 2. So then I can ring through the necessary items I need first then the ones I don't need as much last. I try to stick to a budget. After paying I realized my cart wouldn't move at all? Everyone else was fine but mine was stuck? It was a brand new cart and I was obviously within the magnetic field. As I'm trying to move it and struggling the manager who I've had some interactions with before no issues or anything. Proceeded to pull out a key fob and unlock my cart? I didn't think anything of it and texted my friend who works there and she informed me the manager thinks everyone is a thief even regular customers so he probably locked it the moment I went to start scanning items to make sure I didn't walk out without paying.

I was so upset I walked over to a nice blonde lady helping the women he was previously talking to when I realized my cart was locked in place and told her how embarrassing it was that he did that in front of everyone!

I've been going to that location for 10 years. The review above was from 5 years ago! And WAS 4 stars now is 1 star!!!

How dare you treat your customers like this. If you have a theft issue in your store find another way to handle it like Lawblaws did. Not by embarrassing your paying customers like you did to me today.

I'm no longer a customer at your store and will gladly drive out of ny way to avoid this location for good.

Also. Please stop treating your wonderful staff like garbage. We can all see how you are with them! They...

Store Manager Hassan is abusive towards staff and customers. There has been 10 complaints filed by his employees and he has been written up for abusive behaviour. (The employees of the store told me).

I was a frequent (weekly) shopper at this location, until yesterday. I had gone in for my routine items and separated my meats in bags (as usual). A male employee (did not identify himself) came up to me in a busy aisle, ripped my bags out of my cart and began dumping out my items. Proceeded to yell at me for concealing items and that this meant I was stealing. I froze, I have never been so embarrassed and truthfully felt scared by his aggressive behaviour. He said if I was looking for cheaper meat, he has packs of 4 chicken breast for $6 - I commented that I’m not interested as they expire in 24 hours and I was fine to pay the price of the ones in my cart. He then picked up my trays of meat and then threw them in my cart. 1 minute later returns and asks me to leave or he’ll be charging me. I simply left my cart in the aisle.

A few hours later my mother decided to go to into the store (as we needed the groceries) and asked to speak with him about the interaction. He had the audacity to say “oh did she go cry to mommy about it?” Totally belittling and publicly humiliating me. I was not prepared at 10am on a Sunday, getting groceries, as a young female to be yelled at by a large Middle Eastern man, of course I...

Brightly lit and very clean and tidy. Says they are doing renovations, but did not see any going on. I was delighted to be handed a sanitized cart as I entered. Fresh produce was the first thing in the doors. Most of the external walls are either frozen foods and/or Milk and cooler products. They even had lassi in different flavours! A little more challenging in using the aisles as most people were not noticing the floors and directions on the floor. Lots of lines on the floor for check out and physical distancing. Great to see cashier use hand sanitizer in between each customer. Sadly, there does not seem to have any distancing in between customers when bagging your own groceries. I did not see any cleaning of the scanner or the tap machine. The cashier started into the next order well before we were done bagging. 😞. I do understand that the store needs to process as much as they can and with speed, but in pandemic times, with lockdown. Waiting 1-2 mins to finish would go a long way in customer service and repeat busines, that show that they care about their customers not just the...
