Dr. William Wayne — Attraction in Ottawa

It takes a lot for me to write a negative review but I have to share my experience at this dental office. I had the most horrific treatment during a wisdom tooth extraction yesterday. Going into the exam room I immediately told the nurse I suffered from anxiety and that I was quite nervous about the procedure. I was completely brushed off. When Dr. Wayne came into the room he barely spoke to me except to briefly explain the procedure, so quickly I did not understand & I was not given an opportunity to ask questions. During the freezing he was extremely rough with me despite the fact that I was shaking and crying. In between the rounds of freezing I started to have a panic attack because I felt as although I couldn’t breathe as my gums went numb. None of the 3 people in the room asked if I was okay or bothered comforting me. I struggled to breathe the entire time, gagging and choking, and was once again ignored. As soon as the procedure was finished Dr. Wayne exited the room without speaking to me and I was left alone hyperventilating in the exam room for several minutes before I was asked to relocate to the recovery room. I was then given a prescription for Oxycodone. I clearly told the nurse I didn’t want the prescription. He didn’t bother to ask why and insisted I took it with me “in case”. I am not a doctor but to me there seems to be no need to prescribe a highly addictive narcotic drug to a person under the age of 25 without even a conversation. This is why we have an opiate epidemic in our country. If you suffer from any form of anxiety or addiction issues DO NOT GO HERE. I have never experienced medical staff with less kindness, empathy or compassion. The stitches Dr. Wayne places in my upper gums FELL OUT after less than 12 hours resulting in massive bleeding. So far, my experience with this dental clinic has been far less than stellar. They failed to give us accurate directions, then failed to answer their phone when we called to let them know that we were lost, then failed to call us back before we found our way ourselves, then left us waiting in the hall until they made us late. For me, however, the "crowning achievement" is that they failed to take legitimate concerns regarding questions and insurance into account. I understand that during Covid, businesses need to be more careful, but when a client tells you multiple times, in multiple ways (including being incredibly blunt) that they are uncomfortable, you should be listening to them. When I told them that I was so uncomfortable that I was seriously considering looking for a different clinic, they accused me of putting my family member's health at risk, and tried to guilt me by saying that "it wouldn't be fair for the other people". If you experience any kind of medical-related anxiety, I STRONGLY suggest going anywhere else, at least during Covid. These people don't listen.

I’m extremely grateful for the care I have received by Dr. Wayne and his medical/admin team. Thanks to Dr. Wayne’s skilful extraction plan and execution, I experienced no pain after the surgery. In fact, I didn’t need to take any pain medications.

A week after, he responded to my inquiries about irrigation timely and took me in for a quick check up to clear up my questions. He gave me a demo of how to irrigate the socket and answered my questions with lots of explaining things in lay people language. All this happened on the morning of Xmas Eve when I had had no prior appointment. They squeezed me into their busy schedule so I would be able to enjoy my Xmas without worries.

Dr. Wayne’s practice is extremely well run. They follow COVID19 protocols in every step of my experience. The rooms are fresh and organized, the equipment updated. His staff is warm and always offers to help or do more.

My husband was a patient of Dr. Wayne several years ago. He also received excellent care and had little pain after a much more complex procedure.
