The Barley Mow (Nepean) — Restaurant in Ottawa

Went with our family today on a Wednesday. Sat by re manager, server came quickly to get our drink order. Drinks came out quickly and our food order was taken. All of the food came out quickly, prepared well. Portions were very large (it barely looked like we ate the poutine at all). It was so nice to have quick service with a little kiddo. Food was excellent. Service was very good. Though the regular prices for plates isn't cheap, value is reasonable and the happy hour and daily specials are very good value. We've been back a few times since my original review, and each time has been better than the time before.

---original review (was precovid) below--- Came in on a Sunday, lots of tables available. We were greeted quickly and the server was very friendly and engaging. Got some menus and ordered some festive green drinks and food (an app for her, and a burger for me). App came out first and server promptly checked on us to make sure all was good. Just assumed the burger would come out after. It never came. After drinking our drinks, and waiting another 15 mins, the server came back and I asked about the burger. She seemed surprised and said, "Oh, was there a burger? You didn't get it? I'll go check." Frustrated after 45 mins I indicated that I didn't want to wait longer, and just wanted the bill. Paid and left. No apology or explanation of what happened. No apolgoitic visit from the manager. This is my favorite Barley Mow location in town for multiple reason : décoré, ambiance, live music and gastro food. While it’s located in Napean, this location has a lot to offer …..sitting in a small strip mall, it has the whole parking to its clients at night. Inside decor is modern rustic ….. with touch of western ambiance and warm lighting. Very cozy and inviting. Live music most Saturday night. And we are not just talking about single or duets…. A full band And when we talk about music , also need to mention it’s dance floor … this is the only pub has a dedicated dance floor which I love. Dance floor is boxed in and surrounded by elevated seats or bar stools … so whether you are a diner or a dancer, you can enjoy both at the same time from your seat!! If you do not feel like dancing, you can also sit à but further away from the band. Close to the entrance you have booth seats that give you the intimacy needed. Finally , food. Did I mention they have promotions and specials every night of the week. On weekends, $25/ bottle of wine will never get anyone wrong. I am writing to express my disappointment with the service I received at your restaurant today evening. My friends and I visited your establishment for dinner, and we were looking forward to enjoying your famous chicken wings.

However, when we asked our male server if we could order some wings, he informed us that you were out of them. We were disappointed, but we accepted his response and ordered something else from the menu.

To our surprise, as we were leaving the restaurant, we saw a plate of wings being served to another table. We were shocked and frustrated to learn that your restaurant still had wings available, but our server had lied to us.

This behavior is completely unacceptable, and it has left us feeling misled and disrespected. As customers, we expect honesty and transparency from your staff, and we were extremely disappointed by this experience.

I hope that you will take this complaint seriously and take the necessary steps to ensure that your servers are trained to be honest and upfront with your customers. We appreciate your attention to this matter and hope that you will take steps to ensure that this does not happen again in the...
