The David Dunlap Observatory is an absolute gem for anyone interested in star-gazing, meteor shower hunting, or just exploring the wonders of the night sky. It’s one of the best spots in the area to witness astronomical events, and it’s not uncommon to find fellow enthusiasts with their telescopes set up during a meteor shower or other space events. There’s such a great community vibe here, with people eager to share their passion for astronomy and knowledge with others. It’s a wonderful place to learn more about the stars and constellations, or simply to relax and watch the night sky. That said, it’s worth noting that there has been some new residential development around the park, which has contributed to increased light pollution in the area. While it's still a good spot for star-gazing, it’s not as dark as some of the more northern parks that are further away from the city. However, if you're just looking to escape the city lights for a bit and catch a glimpse of the stars, it's still a lovely location. Another great feature of the David Dunlap Observatory is how photogenic it is. The observatory and the surrounding park offer plenty of beautiful scenery and unique photo opportunities. Whether you’re taking landscape shots of the building itself or capturing the night sky, it’s a fantastic place for photographers and those looking to have a photoshoot. The combination of nature, the observatory, and the stars makes for some truly stunning photos. Overall, David Dunlap Observatory is a must-visit for anyone interested in astronomy or looking for a peaceful spot to take in the beauty of the night sky. It’s a wonderful blend of community, education, and nature, and I highly recommend checking it out, whether you're into stargazing or simply looking for a beautiful, quiet place to unwind. xx kellychan360

I discovered this park on Google Maps during a search for another venue. I had absolutely no clue that an observatory was in this vicinity!

I visited with a friend during early spring so the trees were still bare & flowers hadn't bloomed yet. Regardless, it was a beautiful hidden spot for a lovely stroll on the trails with or without your furry friends, or to sit & just be present in nature. It is incredibly peaceful, tranquil & serene.

The trails are a combination of asphalt pavement & gravel. When I visited, the gravel trails were wet & flooded in lower elevation areas due to recent rainfall. Ensure proper footwear during these conditions otherwise your feet will be soaked!

There were no facilities available in early spring - not sure if that changes during summer. There are a few sparse benches along the trails & picnic tables near the observatory. The observatory was also closed at the...
