Yesterday I have visited The Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue Canal, one of the beautiful places in our country. It was interesting to know that the Canal and set of locks linking Lake Saint-Louis and Lake of Two Mountains at Sainte-Anne-de-Bellevue, the very westernmost point of Montreal Island, Quebec, Canada. And it is a National Historic Site of Canada!
The canal is located in the eastern channel of the Ottawa River around Perrot Island (Île Perrot) where shallow rapids form a natural obstacle. It forms part of the waterway system that allows boating access from the Saint Lawrence River up the Ottawa River to the City of Ottawa, and even to Lake Ontario via the Rideau Canal.
The canal and locks are used today exclusively for recreational boating. The site is a popular tourist location that also offers mooring places, picnic tables, boat launch, and park land. Guided tours and interpretative panels are provided by Parks Canada. Together with the boardwalk and restaurants and cafes that line the canal, the site drew 181,000 visitors and 23,000 boaters in 2003, making it the second busiest canal and locks in Quebec.
I suggest you to visit that places full of trees...
Read moreVery nice place to go and just hang out. You can walk around sit on a bench or at a table. Plenty of things to see like nice boats, waterside, shops and restaurants nearby. You can bring your own chairs as well or have a picnic. Plenty of space if you like tanning or reading. Parking is right across the street. On a nice sunny day it's the place to be. There are also two bridges crossing over the water and rapids. A beautiful and peaceful spot to be alone or with friends. Here is the address for your GPS Go check it out you won't regret it Get out of the house while summer is here. Read moreUsed to be a nice place to visit - Has become a horrible place to drive. Too many bicycles on the road, pedestrians all over the place. Parking is far and uphill, or small and under a bridge. It's also very noisy especially when a train goes by on the bridge. Often they have road signs directly on the road which isn't wide enough to begin with, which exacerbates the already claustrophobic situation. My favorite though is when the local restaurants and shops place a random advert sign on the narrow sidewalk forcing pedestrians onto the street. I drive by occasionally, and had the occasional dinner at one of the local restaurants but it's not my favorite place to visit in the area....
