What a let down. Service on the terrace was very poor, we had trouble flagging the waitress down to order, to get napkins, to get water, to get dessert menu, to get the bill... We were basically ignored (it was a weeknight, full but not overly busy) Wings night special had more fine print than it's worth (they claim 12 wings for price of 6, but it doesn't come with fries, and you have to order a drink but no refills in soft drinks on wings night...). The wings were dry and not especially flavorful. The fries were soggy with oil (first time in my entire life I actually didn't finish my plate of fries) To top it off, they refused to let us pay with a gift certificate, calling it a "promotional certificate" and saying it was expired. (It was clearly written gift certificate on it, which legally cannot expire)
*EDITED to business owner's reply
Firstly - please do not accuse us of being rude to anyone. We very politely ordered and asked our waitress for water refills etc, despite the wait for service. It was only when our form of payment was refused that we made any sort of fuss, and this without raising our voices or disturbing other patrons. We did not threaten to call the police, but offered you to call them if you felt that our payment was not sufficient. In fact, I feel that you were especially rude to me when I offered to show you the gift certificate laws on the OPC website and your response was "Frankly miss, I don't care what the law says, I know what my lawyers told me".
Secondly, we did not at all skip out on our bill. We told you multiple times that our plan was to pay the bill with the gift certificate, plus the balance and a tip for the waitress. As you walked away and showed no sign of coming back, we left what cash we had, which (as shown in the attached photo) does indeed cover the bill and a modest tip. I'm not sure in which instances you would choose to "bend over backwards" for a client other than us - first visit, new to the neighbourhood, got a bunch of gift certificates as a way to discover local eats... usually a prime opportunity to woo a new client.
Finally, note the photo of the gift certificates (NOT labelled "promotional certificate" - the only item that can indeed expire). The expiry date is written as 311117. The only possible interpretation here is November 17, 2031... unless you are saying that there were 31 days in...
Read moreMy friend told me that Cunningham's has the best wings he's had in his life--and let's just say that man is not a stranger to the deep fried arts. So before I flew home from Montreal I took the train out to Cunningham's.
Now dear reader, given how most restaurants operate, there a good chance you've never had fresh chicken wings in your life. For most places it is apparently much too difficult to purchase chicken wings from a butcher and then cook them without the use of a freezer and multinational corporation in the middle of the process.
Not so at Cunningham's. The wings are exquisite. They are crisp externally and juicy internally, like the fried poultry of the gods. The rubs and sauces are ambrosia (Pro tip: get inferno sauce on the side of whatever you order. It's delicious and not THAT hot.)
In addition to that, the staff are fantastic. I sat at the bar and the bartender (Jamie, I think) was fantastic in terms of recommendations and a bit of pub banter. Its also very Anglo friendly if you're from out of town.
Are the wings alone worth a 2 hour detour from downtown Montreal to the airport? Maybe? But the whole vibe and awesome staff made it worthwhile for me and I will 100% be back when I'm next in Montreal. if you're...
Read moreSo I decided to give Cubninghams a 2nd try. The first time around I came around 11pm on a weekend night in June. I felt so I welcomed. Got the rolled eyes from the bartender when I ask for a Mojito. A cocktail that’s popular in the summer that I can get any other Irish pub. Let’s be real you have the ingredients for it. Today I go for 2 pints of Harp. We sit on the terasse because it’s a beautiful Sunday. We ordered the 2 pints. We wait 20 mins then a waitress cleaning a table in front of us tells us: « someone will be with you shortly » and we tell her we already ordered beer a while ago. Took a total of 25 mins to get our 2 pints. Then the waiter asks us « what else will you be ordering » and we tell him nothing else. Then he tells us « because of the liquor license we have you have to order something to eat such as chips and salsa » . He tells us that after we waited 30 mins for 2 pint of beer. So we were forced to bring our beers to the bar. Then I got to witness something so unimaginable… the barmaid opening creamers with her mouth for clients iced coffees!!!! With her mouth. That was the cherry on top for me. Never again am I coming to your pub. Would not even recommend it and...
