Drove from Burnaby all the way to the Museum of Surrey today and we're glad we did. Exhibits were very informative and fun for us parents and grandparents (my in-laws) to be able to share our past experiences to our kids. The exhibits on the second floor about what the Canadian Japanese went thru after the second world war was both eye-opening and emotionally touching. I have nothing but admiration for the Japanese people. I had the pleasure to speak with another guest who happened to be a descendant or know of Japanese families who went thru the horrors of losing everything they had and being placed in Japanese internment camps.
Icing on the cake was when we were told that the elevator was currently out of order. I briefly spoke with the person who was at the reception area about how we drove all the way from Burnaby but we may have to come back to see the second floor as my mother-in-law is on a mobility scooter. A few minutes later while we were checking out the exhibits on the first floor, the person at the reception told us that she had talked to curator and have arranged for my MIL to get up to the second floor.
I just want to extend a big thank you again to you and the curator. The whole experience really made our...
Read moreWhen I visited, this place had just opened up and to be perfectly honest it was very hard to find, there was literally nowhere to park and there were no signs pointing where the building was.
The admission fee is by donation, which is really nice. As it encourages more locals and everyone to visit more often, with hopefully more donations for maintaining such a large building. From there you have one wing that leads to a children's playground, which is a large house structure with a slide and other things to entice a child's imagination.
On the other wing, there are dinosaurs. About 4 or so of them, some of them animatronics. But beyond that, there is nothing much else. The entire exhibit could be walked in and out of within 5 minutes, children might be enticed at the motion reacting displays but most adults seemed to be more interested in their phones, rather than joining in with the little one's curiosities.
The final wing before exiting, Is a room with history of Surrey's past. Carriages and farm equipment followed by an old fire engine, this was far more interesting than the rest of the building. The detailed stories and historical facts were very intriguing, when you think about how much has changed...
Read moreOn a rainy weekday, I had the chance of visiting the museum with my little son, who was particularly excited about the Lego exhibit. While the overall experience was enjoyable, I feel compelled to share both the positives and areas that could benefit from attention.
The Lego museum itself created a small but charming environment, capturing the imagination with its intricate displays and creative showcases. The attention to detail in the Lego exhibits was commendable, providing an engaging and educational experience for both children and adults.
However, one drawback was the adjacent playground. Despite its potential for enjoyment, the area fell short due to noticeable issues. The playground had an unpleasant odor, and its cleanliness left much to be desired. This aspect detracted from an otherwise positive visit, especially for families with young children who are drawn to such spaces.
In conclusion, the Lego museum offered a delightful experience overall. The creative displays and engaging atmosphere were highlights, but addressing the cleanliness concerns in the playground would undoubtedly enhance the overall visit for families. I hope this feedback proves helpful for the ongoing improvement of...
