Republica Coffee Roasters Cloverdale — Restaurant in Surrey

HACKED AND MONEY STOLEN - DO NOT BUY

I’ve ordered from Republica a bunch of times before with no issues and really enjoy their roasts but my last order was a mess. Paid through their website using PayPal and the money went to some random business name I’ve never heard of. A few days later they emailed me saying they never got the funds and basically told me to contact PayPal to try to get the money back.

Their explanation was that it was a “PayPal technical issue” and that I should always double check the payee name before sending money. That doesn’t sit right with me. If I’m checking out on your official website I shouldn’t have to second guess whether the payment is actually going to you. Their site was either hacked, their PayPal setup was compromised, or they misconfigured it. How can I check out on YOUR website, have a receipt showing 4 lbs of roasted coffee, but the seller name on PayPal is some random name not associated to them? In addition to that, when they contacted me about my order they accidentally CC'd other people who were most likely affected by the same issue.

Their official responses:

"Unfortunately, due to a technical issue with PayPal’s payment system, some payments were mistakenly authorized to an account not associated with us. In some cases, transactions have shown the recipient's name as “Toko Maria” or “Toko Putri.” Please note that Republica Coffee never received these funds."

"We wanted to clarify that due to a recent technical issue with PayPal, some payments were mistakenly authorized to accounts not associated with Republica Coffee. If your transaction shows any recipient other than Republica Coffee Roasters Inc., the payment did not reach us. As a result, your current order has been cancelled, and you can place a new order."

Instead of owning it they downplayed it, canceled my order, and asked me to order again!? I'm still fighting with PayPal to dispute the original charge with no success yet.

We tried to check this place out last week and found they were closed on Sundays - weird...But now we've made a second trip out and they're out of ingredients for some sandwiches, there was a bit of a rush after we got here and the barista seems to be totally out of his element :/ he is making drinks out of order (probably the easiest ones first to try to ease congestion?). I asked him if he would mind cutting my Nanaimo bar in four and he said no problem but then gave it to me whole so I asked for a knife and he obliged (however the plastic knife is too flimsy to cut anything). The wait is waaaay too long...15 minutes for 4 drinks and counting...Sorry Cloverdale coffee company - I'd love to support a local business but...

Great service! I went here on two separate occasions and both times the staff were very laid back and friendly. In terms of their products, so far I have ordered a Mocha and a London Fog. Though I would have liked more syrup in both drinks (mocha syrup for my Mocha and vanilla syrup for my tea) they were prepared well, overall. As this is a young company, I'm certain that their drinks will only get better and better. Location is quite good as well, right in the heart of downtown Cloverdale. I highly recommend Cloverdale Coffee Company because of their service and encourage everyone in Cloverdale to support this local café. After all, you can find chain coffee shops all over the world; cafés like this are ONLY in...
