For the past few years, my church has held most of its annual spring and fall balls at The Estate Banquet Hall on Nugget Avenue in Scarborough. I've always been impressed at how lovely the room is decorated when I walk in with my gown and see the elegant guests fitting in quite well. There's always talk about how beautiful the hall looks. I'm not on my church's social and planning committee, so I had no interaction with the management for these events. Well, that recently changed! I spent months in the latter part of 2015 and earlier part of 2016, searching for a venue that would be central for my guests in the GTA. I began looking at different banquet halls close to Yonge street to accommodate guests coming from the west end. The occasion was celebrating a great, birthday milestone for a family member. I found that the prices were too high and some of the venues I looked at couldn't accommodate my 200 guests. I decided to meet with the management at The Estate Banquet hall to check out the costs and the menu. I already knew that they prepared good food as most of my church members were always pleased with the different choices. I must say that I was very impressed when I met with Jeet. He listened carefully to my needs and informed me of the different options with food. He let me know what was included in the price and what was extra. He even went as far as to offer a meal at our meeting so that the family members that accompanied me could taste the food. We immediately paid a deposit to hold the hall. During the planning, I called Jeet with different questions and he was very polite and patient. My questions were about microphones, audio-visual equipment for my slideshow and a few others. He provided me with the costs that I found quite reasonable. It's truly a ONE-STOP shopping place. They have just about everything. If you have special decorations you want to add, just leave it with them and they'll get it done. I guarantee when you show up at the event, you'll be pleased. I should also add that they are very accommodating. My cake was supposed to arrive and served for dessert. Instead of being at the hall by 4:00 pm, it arrived at 9:30 pm. I had arranged to have it taken to the back after the "happy birthday" was sung and served for dessert. I opted out of having their dessert as I wasn't having a sweet table for the cake. Jeet approached me after not seeing my cake. He told me he could arrange for dessert because the entree was being served and it would soon be time for dessert. I was truly amazed. At the end of the evening and before leaving, I told him I'll be in touch with him the following day. When I called Jeet the following morning to find out how much I owed him for the dessert for my 200 guests, he told me that it was okay... in his words.. "Don't worry about it." Now that's great customer service! Thank you to Jeet and the entire staff at The Estate Banquet Hall for meeting and surpassing all my needs. You are...
Read moreI was highly disappointed with the service of this banquet hall. Jeet, the manager and the owner, of the banquet hall initially promised us many things when we initially went to speak with him about renting the centre. We had discussed that we would be able to get the top floor. Once everything was chosen and we were good to go, we went to see him a few days before the wedding to hand over the remaining balance when he decided to surprise us with some new information about not being able to host the event upstairs. Upon arrival, he would constantly call my father in law with issues that were happening during the event, he would not let any of the older men go outside for a cigarette break making it seem like we were doing something illegal, which was not the case. Throughout the night, he would tell my father in law, mother in law, mother, husband, and myself different stories in order to get his way while maintaining the peace although that created many more issues. He would constantly stress us out even though everything we agreed to happened as planned. We were also asked to pay additional fees for lighting however the entire time the lights were very low, and we had asked to have that taken care of many times. The servers went around the tables around 10:30pm telling guests that they should leave because the event would be over at 11pm even though we were promised 12:00-12:30am originally. My videographer called Jeet to ask him what the current amount of guests were since they were coming by to pick up their employees and Jeet came to my husband and I, while we were trying to finally eat, that they were threatening to call the police, which was not the case. They came and apologized and made sure we knew the truth because Jeet, once again, was creating an issue out of nothing for his advantage. My husband and I took a maximum of 5 bites because we were too occupied speaking with Jeet to make sure he upheld the promises he had made to us. The bathrooms were not maintained at all. The cake was asked to be cut for the guests and nothing was done for an hour until my sister in law spoke to Jeet again. The food was exceptional and was really good however we did not get to enjoy any of it because of the stress he was causing. My sister in law wrote a review and because she spoke the truth and it was not up to his satisfaction, he called my husband in order for the review to be taken down. Meanwhile, he did not let us get a word across and everything we tried to explain to me, he continued to defend. Definitely will not be back to...
Read moreDO NOT BOOK THIS BANQUET HALL â Horrible Experience from Start to Finish
Our experience with this banquet hall was a complete disaster, and I would never recommend it to anyone, especially not for an important event like a wedding.
Letâs start with the bridal room â or what they claim is a bridal room. When I asked Jeet to direct me to it, he told a staff member in Hindi to âclean it before taking her.â I was then led down to the end of a dirty basement hallway and shown a few tiny, stuffy rooms with no AC and one barely working fan. It was one of the most disgusting spaces Iâve ever seen â completely inappropriate for any bride.
Next, the decor situation was a mess. We had hired a third-party vendor to decorate, but Jeet failed to remove decorations from a previous event. Our team had to work around their leftover decor, which made setup extremely cramped and chaotic.
As guests began arriving, the carpets were still dirty. I had to ask the manager 3â4 times to get someone to vacuum, and by the time they did, it was already too late â guests were walking in as a worker was vacuuming the floor. Jeet actually told us to keep the guests outside while they finished cleaning. Unbelievable.
We were also charged extra â a few hundred dollars â for microphone and speaker use because we had organized speeches. However, the sound system didnât work at all. When we notified Jeet, he brushed it off saying they were âworking on itâ and asked us to wait. Obviously, we couldnât delay the entire event while they took their time trying to fix it.
As for the food, we were told weâd receive authentic Afghan food from their partner, Riaz Catering. What we got was anything but Afghan cuisine. The food was bland and disappointing â most of our guests didnât even eat. Later we realized that another Indian party downstairs had been served the exact same food, falsely labeled as Afghan. On top of that, they just left the food out all night without properly storing or managing it.
To make matters worse, the temperature inside the hall kept rising throughout the night. While the AC was working in the beginning, it was clear they were turning it down (or off) to cut costs, making the atmosphere uncomfortable for all our guests.
In summary: 0/10. Jeet and the entire management team were completely unprofessional and disorganized. From the venue conditions to the service and food â everything was below acceptable standards. Do not waste your time, money, or peace of mind booking this hall. You will be disappointed and frustrated, just...
