It's a park. There's a bunch of different fields here, like baseball diamonds, a cricket field surrounded by a track, a lacrosse rink, tennis courts, and an astroturf field for the grass/cement intolerant. There's even a small pond usually, and it's full of ducks. Please don't feed the ducks though, because you'll notice that, around sundown, all that uneaten duck food is suddenly being eaten by the rats of the pond. It was this pond that taught me rats can swim. The picnic areas here have a place to put hot coals when you're done with them, but drinking is now legal in the picnic area so it's a lot harder to feel like an outlaw while cooking hot dogs. The bathroom facilities are adequate for a park (as in, they exist) but I would not recommend attempting to eat off of any of the toilet seats, as that would not be food safe. If you're looking to have a brawl, there's a bunch of geese around the park that just generally hate anything living. The ice cream man comes around sometimes but drives way too fast, so watch out for him as it seems he might be a fan of that game...
Read moreSouth Vancouver's sports megaplex. Featuring a professional astroturf soccer field with huge stadium lighting, a lacrosse box, a ballpark with decent bleachers, a cricket field, a track & field oval, four tennis courts, various other track & field facilities, and a new outdoor gym equipment area. There are numerous playing fields for soccer baseball, or other activities.
Aside from sports, there is a picnic area next to a duck pond with charcoal bbq's available for use, and a nice little playground with swing sets.
When you head toward the track oval, the old clubhouse, greenery, and people playing cricket give the park kind of a Victorian feel.
This is adjacent to the cenotaph, memorializing those who died in WWI, and subsequent wars, and where the park gets its name. There is a large wreath-laying ceremony here every November 11th.
If you enter from 41st Ave and Windsor St, you walk/drive down a long, narrow road, lined with tall oak trees, leading to the cenotaph directly ahead, which the road circles. It is impressively laid out, and adds to the sombre mood of...
Read moreMemorial Park is such a fun place to visit! It’s super big with lots of green grass and tall trees that give nice shade on sunny days. My family and I like to bring a picnic blanket and snacks to sit and eat together. The playground is the best part—it has swings, slides, and climbing structures. I love going down the big slide really fast and swinging as high as I can.
There’s also a big open field where you can run around, play soccer, or fly a kite. Sometimes, my friends and I play tag, and we get so tired from running and laughing. There are benches around the park where my parents like to sit and relax while watching me play.
I also noticed there are flowers planted in some areas, and they look so colorful and pretty. In the fall, the leaves fall all over the ground, and I love crunching them under my shoes.
Sometimes, the park has events like little fairs or music performances, and those are really fun too. Memorial Park is a great place to play, have fun, and spend time with family. I always feel happy when we go there, and I can’t wait to...
