Recently visited an exceptional Thai restaurant that truly captivated my taste buds. The ambiance was cozy, perfect for both casual lunches and intimate dinners. The meal started with a refreshing Thai iced tea, its creamy sweetness impeccably balancing the robust tea flavor. For appetizers, the spring rolls were a delight, crisp on the outside with a tender and flavorful vegetable filling.
The main course featured two standout dishes: a vibrant vegetable stir-fry and a rich, aromatic green curry. The stir-fry was a medley of fresh, crunchy vegetables and tender tofu, glazed with a savory sauce that had just the right amount of umami. The green curry, served with perfectly steamed rice, was a harmonious blend of coconut milk, tender chicken pieces, and eggplant, with hints of basil that elevated the complexity of the dish. The curry's spice level was balanced, allowing all the flavors to shine without overpowering heat.
Each dish was prepared with care, presenting the depth of Thai cuisine. The ingredients tasted fresh, and the flavors were authentic, making it evident that the chefs pay homage to traditional Thai cooking methods. The service was attentive and friendly, adding to the positive experience.
All in all, it was a memorable dining experience that I would recommend to anyone in search of quality Thai cuisine. This place is a gem that stands out for its genuine flavors and...
Read moreI don't understand the high ratings for this restaurant. It really puzzles me how they can get such a high rating when there are much better thai restaurants in the city.
For some context, I've been to Thailand and I have eaten Thai food there. I have also visited many other thai restaurants in the city.
Now to get back to this restaurant, we ordered the Thai combo for 2. Red curry, pad Thai, shrimp wontons, tong yum soup and it came with rice and a side salad.
All of the dishes we ordered had a common theme. I don't want to compare this quality of food to Thailand as it's incomparable but comparing the Thai food here to other thai restaurants in this neighborhood is a fair comparison.
The general flavor profile of the cooked dishes here were generally on the bland side compared to the other Thai restaurants in Van. The flavors here were not pronounced and was muted to what you would expect real Thai food to be. This restaurant is definitely not catering to Thai's.
Another downer was the shrimp wontons that we received, it tasted like it was fried in old oil and it was very greasy to the taste and touch. It had this off-putting after taste and a sign that they were not fried at the right temperature.
Unfortunately, we don't see ourselves coming back as the flavor of the food was below average. We felt that the average Thai restaurant in Van was better than...
Read moreI recently dined at Thai Away Home on Nanaimo Street and had an excellent experience. The dishes I tried were the Stir Fry Tom Yum Noodles and the Stir Fry Spicy Noodles (Pad Kee Mao with Chicken). Both were fantastic!Stir Fry Tom Yum Noodles: This dish was a delightful mix of flavors. The noodles were perfectly cooked and absorbed the rich, tangy, and slightly spicy Tom Yum sauce. The balance of spices and the freshness of the ingredients made it a standout.Stir Fry Spicy Noodles (Pad Kee Mao with Chicken): The Pad Kee Mao was equally impressive. The noodles were coated in a savory, spicy sauce that had the right amount of heat. The chicken was tender and well-seasoned, and the inclusion of fresh vegetables added a great texture and flavor balance.Service: The service at Thai Away Home was top-notch. The staff were friendly, attentive, and quick to accommodate any requests. They ensured that our dining experience was enjoyable from start to finish.Overall, I highly recommend Thai Away Home for anyone looking to enjoy delicious Thai cuisine with excellent service. This place is definitely worth a visit!Feel free to adjust this draft to match your personal experience or...
