A vintage Arrow Dynamics Custom Looper, one of the original roller coasters in the park and for a long time, its most intense. Two back to back loops and a double corkscrew. It was a revolutionary design in its day, but that day was the late 1970s. Today the top of its hill, once the third highest drop in the park, is eye level with Leviathan's brake run!
It's another one of Wonderland's roller coasters that is probably not long for this world, ride it before it's gone. Be aware that like The Bat - which uses the same type of train - Dragon Fyre has over-the-shoulder restraints where if the rider is a kid or a shorter adult, their head will rest between the restraints and there may be some head-banging. The g-forces in the loops and corkscrew are significant, keep your head back against the headrest.
Despite its age it's still fairly smooth, except for the disappointing helix at the end of the ride, after the mid-course brake run. It's still tied for the 2nd most inversions (going upside down) in the park with 4, so it's good training for Alpine Fury (with 9).
Sitting in the shadow of Leviathan, the ride is often a walk-on and even at peak times, it isn't really busy. Its usually short queues make this...
Read moreOne of Canada's Wonderland's many rollercoasters, but as most old Vekoma coasters are, this ride is a pain in the - NECK specifically. The hill is probably the most thrilling part that you actually experience as it's happening. The first loop always feels like it's happening in slow motion, but the two loops aren't the worst part, even though you're trying to keep your head back the entire time, the corkscrew is not just pain, it's brain damaging. Now this ride is a classic, and has been in the park for a while. It has a great view being directly beside Leviathan, but it doesn't occupy much space, so if it was removed, a major coaster would not replace it, so I frankly think we should deal with...
Read moreThe reason I rank it pretty high for me is the classic nostalgia of Dragon Fire. Arrow Dynamics was the manufacturer at that time, who was revolutionary, and it has a classic layout. I love those inversions, especially the counter-clockwise corkscrews, which are the only ones that are like that. It's actually is not that rough either, for being over 30 years old now, it's still one of the smoother Arrow Dynamics coasters still in...
