Thunder Run is such a classic ride — I remember loving it years ago and couldn’t wait to experience it again as an adult. After feeling pretty rough from a bad ride on Behemoth earlier in the day, I was especially looking forward to something a little more tame and fun — and Thunder Run delivered exactly that. It’s the perfect family coaster — smooth, easygoing, and just thrilling enough to keep things exciting without being overwhelming. The indoor section through Wonder Mountain is still as fun and nostalgic as I remembered, and the surprise tunnel effects add a great touch. Even though it’s been around for years, Thunder Run has held up really well and is still one of those rides that brings a smile to your face — whether you’re a kid or revisiting old favourites like I was. If you’re looking for a fun, smooth, and classic coaster at Wonderland — especially after a rougher ride like Behemoth — I highly recommend Thunder Run. It’s a must-do for anyone wanting to enjoy a bit of...
Read moreOne of the park's original coasters, it started life as Blauer Enzian in 1981 and was reprofiled, renamed, and moved inside Wonder Mountain in 1986. It's your classic powered mine coaster, and it's a blast. Probably the best family coaster in the park. There are no significant changes in elevations, and no drops, so it's not a "scary" ride, but it feels fast, especially through the tunnels. Cliche, but it really is one of those "fun for the whole family" type rides: tame enough for kids, with enough of a lick of speed to please older riders.
Warning: the ride contains strobe effects, which are, sadly, really the only effects that still work. Much of the ride inside the mountain is dark, but as you enter the big helix, look to your right to see if you can spot the dragon, nicknamed "Herman", in the gloom.
Also note this ride does not have a Fast Lane, and it remains as popular as it was when it opened in 1986. Aim to ride it early, or late, or on...
Read moreThunder Run is a perfectly wonderful and enjoyable family mine train coaster. It's short with only a few turns, but you to through the layout twice so the actual experience is worthwhile. As you fly through the station the ride operations and everyone else say CHOO CHOO which is fun to call back to. There are indoor and outdoor sections with mine shaft tunnels and a helix around a neat looking dragon at the end. The best part is that it interacts and utilizes the park's icon Wonder Mountain. If you like mine train coasters or if you have little ones who like coasters, or if you're at the park at all, don't miss out on...
