I dreamed of getting married in the Zeidler Dome at TELUS World of Science ever since I heard it was a thing you could actually book! My now-husband and I have a bit of a history there too in our relationship, and so we gave it a shot to book for our wedding Ceremony Venue, and we are so glad it worked out! While it was a little on the pricier side for just the ceremony venue (you can’t host the reception there), it really was worth it. Our ceremony was so unique, and Jaqueline and Frank were so wonderful to work with!
Jacqueline was a dream. She was so accommodating, knowledgeable, and kind, yet commanded attention from our rather large bridal party. When it looked as though the weather wasn’t going to cooperate for outdoor photos, she took us and our photographer around to get a few really neat indoor shots. The time limit in the Dome for weddings is rather limited, but Jacqueline made efforts to change/cancel show times beforehand to allow us to get in for set up, and although our ceremony ran a little longer than anticipated, she still allowed us to get a few photos in the Dome afterwards too. She was so helpful in directing everyone at the rehearsal, and ensured everything ran smoothly on the wedding day.
The sky is literally the limit when it comes to the options you can choose in the Dome – you can have photos, a slideshow, videos, music, lasers, pretty much you name it, Frank can make it work! We went fairly simple with just the moon and stars as our backdrop, but Frank had the stars moving to start off with, then had shooting stars when I walked down the aisle! At the end we did choose a special “globular cluster” as our exit backdrop, with a little laser firework show saying “presenting Mr. & Mrs.”. I did supply the order of events for the whole ceremony, including our officiant script, etc., but the end did get a little mixed up - the fireworks were supposed to come post-kiss just as our officiant presented us as Husband and Wife, but instead came on during the kiss, and then repeated again for the recession, which all in all turned out fine, it just made for a couple awkward pauses as the groom and I were a little confused on what to do when the cues went off early! This was so minor though, that I don’t think anyone noticed except for us, so to all of our guests, it all went off without a hitch and everyone absolutely loved it. We really couldn’t be happier with our experience, it was a wonderful and memorable way to start our married life together, it was...
Read moreI want to give this place 5 stars but it’s given me enough reasons not to. The front desk staff are indifferent and don’t seem interested in providing great service. It’s mostly the ladies, they seem unhappy and I know that they can’t act like robots, but that’s the nature of their job to at least smile and acknowledge that you’re standing there waiting in the members’ only line. We waited so long last time and there were two people at the desk, two others in the background no one even bothered to say “Hey, we’ll just be a little longer or... 15 minutes” The exhibits feel half done, like “we’ll slap this together, whatever.” There’s no love and you can sense it. ☹️ We watched the Halloween show upstairs in the Zeidler Dome and it was so disappointing! It was a simple laser show that my kids could’ve put together but with better music. Boring! We left early. The only good show here is put on by a young man, blond with a thin frame. He’s usually showing how substances react (fire, gases, etc.) and what makes it fun and engaging is that he has a great personality and treats kids kindly. He alone gets a 5/5. Another positive is the hot dogs in the cafeteria, they’re really good! One thing I don’t like is that the aprons in the Discoveryland exhibit are not helpful in keeping your child dry. The front curves inwards so all the water falls on the kid’s pants and shoes. Also, at times there’s not enough of them for all the kids attending. I suggest you bring a change of clothes or plan to be there last, just before going home. The little nursing room there needs more attention more often because it can get really smelly, I don’t know... maybe they need to add a fan if there’s isn’t one there already. A sign showing that it is a nursing room would help too. A couple of my friends didn’t know it was there and they’ve been there before. Another thing was that for months I tried getting them to help me receive the monthly email. When I was there I asked the young lady if she could let the person in charge know about the issue and to please have them contact me. Instead she wrote the email down and gave me the card, told me to send an email! What? I’m already there, wouldn’t it be just as easy to leave a note? I just received the first one and our membership expires in January. We won’t be...
Read moreI was planning on taking my son to the Telus World of Science as it’s a very nostalgic place for me (I used to have my birthday parties there way back when it was called the Space and Science Centre). However, I was worried that with him being so young, the IMAX theatre wouldn’t be safe to take him to due to the noise level and brightness of screen. So I called ahead to see if they had any safety recommendations for my son. When I asked the customer service rep if it was suitable for him, she responded very condescendingly that a child the age of my son wouldn’t watch the movie. I again tried to explain that I realized he wouldn’t necessarily watch the movie, but would the 2D IMAX movie be safe for him as opposed to a 3D movie. I also brought up the fact that they have sensory sensitive viewings but they only happen once a month so would a regular 2D movie be ok. Again, she responded very snarkily that my child wouldn’t watch any of the movies they offered. She was extremely rude and made me feel very stupid for inquiring about this for the safety of my child. When I thanked her for the (lack of) information, she added “oh but if you do come, bring headphones as it’s loud in there…” which is exactly why I was asking if it was safe for my son!! So after making me feel like an idiot and essentially laughing at me, she ended up half answering my question. Needless to say, I did not take my son for fear of being judged and laughed at. Not at all the child-friendly environment I would expect. It was very disheartening.
EDIT: I planned to take my son through the whole centre and see all the exhibits but thought since I was there anyways, paying a fairly high price for my admission, I thought it might also be worthwhile to see an IMAX movie while there. I did not plan to go solely for the IMAX. I would have taken my son without seeing the IMAX movie if it hadn’t been for the rudeness of the customer service rep who honestly made me feel so stupid that I was worried I’d be recognized as the caller and made fun of. So I chose not to go which is a shame because it’s something from my childhood that I wanted to share...
