New owner: Ago's fish is epic. Just like my mom used to make. Seasoned and super lightly battered, cooked to flaky moist perfection with that straight outta the water flavour freshness... I will def be a two piecer next time and go light on the fries... Which are cut fresh to order.
Don't ignore the tartar sauce - it's the perfect balance of creamy and acidic with fresh finely diced red onions and fresh cucumber... Knowing him, likely from around the corner at the market. Seriously that would make for a scrumptious salad dressing on a shrimp scallop fresh veg salad.
As a pescitarian (fish and seafood as meat only) his products are flown / shipped in twice weekly... He will be bringing back live lobster from new Brunswick shortly - mainly sources Canadian fishermen and has a "boat to table" relationship with them (as well as a couple out of Florida)
He is bringing in live bands on Fridays has Tuesday outdoor movie nights in the works and will be expanding the menu which already has a fabulous fish and seafood collection with a grilled vegetables tofu salads and more.
He has big plans for that little place and new long hours 10am-midnight most days.
Looking forward to trying the lobster calamari and scallops.
This was a great flavour location before and now it is even better. Don't let the old boat exterior fool you, it's seasoned goodness inside.
Owner friendly and informative and willing to work with dietary requirements wherever reasonably possible.
Definitely worth a whirl.
Adjacent to the market on the North side sharing the parking lot with antique shop right off 85.
Prev owner: Perfectly cooked fish great batter crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside. Great batter to fish ratio. Fresh cut fries were respectable - good portion size not too huge not too small. Worth a try. I am local and I will be back.
Seasonal business. Not open in winter.
Other options too such as Chapman's icecream various other items like hot dogs and street vendor type foods. Drinks...
Read moreWell I have to say growing up in Newfoundland has made me picky when it comes to fish. When I saw this place was a boat I was instantly intrigued. We arrived here a bit early so we had to wait a little for the owner to get the kitchen ready which was ok with me, it was a beautiful day and we were not in a rush. He played some music which I loved. The owner was extremely friendly which made our experience even better, some people just have that gift of personality, he was definitely one of those people. We had the halibut and calamari with fresh cut fries and I have to say it was definitely in my top three for best fish. Most places I have to coat my fish in tartar sauce just to give it some taste but not here, however the tartar sauce was fantastic but it just added to the meal and wasn’t required. I would rate this place higher if possible. Please ignore the 1 star reviews for this place and go there when you are not in a rush and enjoy the atmosphere and hospitality. We will definitely come here again when we travel this way.
P.S… The cake...
Read moreWent for dinner with my mom tonight. We got an order of calamari to start which was cooked perfectly. They were good and meaty too, not the little weak rings you get some places. I had the grilled arctic char and she had the grilled sword fish. Both came with fries, salad and a piece of corn. Everything was super fresh and all their sauces were homemade. The tarter sauce is real good and has a Caribbean twist.
I love that they had old school dancehall blasting from the old boat. There is only outdoor seating but they do have a tent set up over a few picnic tables which was nice because it was raining.
The guys in the boat were super friendly and very genuine. All this for just under $50 and we we're both super happy. Had roadside Caribbean vibes, but was just missing a cold red stripe. Will 100% return to try some of their other offerings....
